I am using Ibanez RG series ...I am using Ibanez RG series and Roland micro cube amp.
The sound is good enough for the space i play in. Adjusting to appropriate settings it gives you pretty clean sound in any mode you want to play from accoustic to heavy... cheap solution actually ! Orion plays awesome, i play many of metallica's tunes, although i suck at soloing

PRS would be the guitar i ...PRS would be the guitar i want, i have an old Ibanez SA, BC Rich Beast (The old one that looked bad ass) and an ibanez 12 string.
Just sold my Marshall JVM410H stack though, kinda regretting it, i just use an old korg effects processor and a PA Amp now.

rockduke...Electric Guitars ...Your discussion is a bit technical for me here, however, I like electric guitars, but I don't play any.
I like Santana and still into Hotel California's guitar playing, it's so enchanting.
Enjoy

Steve Clark? ...Anyone likes Steve Clark of Def Leppard? I used to blow the sound up to hear his solos.
Actually, I'm still hung up on his guitar playing, even though he passed away long ago, in the 90s.

Ibanez All the Way ! ...I've been an electric guitarist for years now, and I personally have not come across a more balanced guitar than the Ibanez Prestige ones... You got the quality, the Brand name and service, The Flexibility, The nice styles of designs, the 24 frets, the string locks, the Ease to install custom made pickups and much more !
I use Ibanez Prestige guitar with custom ordered Fernandes Sustainer pickups, Boss GT-8 Multieffect Pedal, and Roland Cube-60 amp ... rocks on real well ...
quick note to help ppl who want this: if you want metallica guitar sound, just max up the Bass and Trebble of your tone, and put the middle on Zero .. you'll get exact Metallica guitar sound that way ! keep it up !
Keep Shredding the Solos !

/-a-t-/SAMAEL ...How much did you let that JVM go for? Arrrgh I've been meaning to get one, they only have the combo at the Yammy store :(

Mr. Sarkissian ...Heavy scooping (max bass & treble/0 mids) is something NO ONE DOES. Not even the heaviest chugga chugga death metal bands. The guitar is a midrange instrument, in the heaviest of Metal mixes it occupies the space between 60hz and 12500khz. Usually the mids may be tamed with a multiband compressor in the studio to eliminate booming tones and irregularities in level but in general that's a bad approach.
I'm quite sure Metallica have been using Diezel amps lately in the studio. Those are quite a pretty penny. If you want the vintage Metallica tone (MoP era), back then they used the Mesa TriAxis preamp and the Mesa Mark IV amps. For cleans Hetfield used a Roland Jazz Chorus 120 combo. Hope I've helped!

Guitars... ...I've been playing for about 15 years, although I'm nowhere near someone who's been playing even three. Just never bothered to apply myself, lazy and all I wanted was to play fast. Not really shred, just riff! Death/Thrash/Black Metal, Hardcore punk...you know...crazy fast stuff with lotsa yelling haha...
Went through a ton of guitars. Left three back home, a crap Jackson Performer, a slightly better Kramer Vanguard flying V (with a DiMarzio X2N I stuck in it), and my baby, a Gibson Gothic Explorer. Had a Fender Standard Mexican Strat HSS I really loved but had to pawn when things hit the wall with the damn recession. Gone, not forgotten. Now I'm looking for a Fender Deluxe American Stratocaster HSS, with the roller nut. If someone has one with a rosewood fretboard and in any color but red and sunburst, hit me up. You ain't getting more than 4000 QR out of me for it though, any more and I can get one from the States, sorry :P Now I'm officially guitarless :(
I generally prefer the classic stuff. Gibson, Fender...I like the tone and feel, and the fact they can do more than metal and fusion. Never liked Ibanez honestly, too thin, too wide a neck for me. I'm not much of a shredder so the jumbo frets are pointless to me, they just feel weird and the chording is awkward. Different strokes for different folks!
PRS are real nice, kind of like between a strat and an LP. I just find them ugly and overpriced, but the tone and feel is definitely unique and unmatched.

oh yeah ...A note on something many folks don't know...
When it comes to quality, every company has a main/premium line that is manufactured either in the USA or in Japan, and a number of cheaper instruments made in China, Indonesia, Korea, India...depending on whether it's an entry level instrument or something with a few bells and whistles, the price will vary.
Guitars like those cheap Yammys, BC RIch Bronzes, Jackson 10s, Ibanez GIOs, LTD 50s...they're all pretty much the same. Bad wood, bad fit and finish, you get what you pay for. Those are for kids that just started, if they show talent they'll get something else. If not, no biggie. You can't really do much to those guitars to make them into studio instruments. I'd always recommend a no brand Chinese instrument like the SX. Not only are they cheaper but at least they used legit woods (Alder, Basswood, etc) to manufacture them instead of Agathis, or worse particle board or MDF.
Once you get into the $2500+ "custom shop" zone, it's all very comparable as well. It's purely a matter of personal preference, there's no better/worse, merely value for money.
I think Schecter have been lately offering some pretty solid instruments for cheap, but Chinese companies like Agile too.
If anyone has any old Jap guitars such as Westone, old Aria Pro, Daion, Tokai, Greco, Heartfield...that they want to get rid off for a reasonable price, do holla! Oh yeah old Ibanez Destroyers or Rocket Rolls too. Those were some great Ibanez guitars :)
