Latest news from Qatar
the nun who took bravely the church

Former nun Sister Jesme talks to Aastha Atray Banan about her controversial autobiography Amen, in which she speaks out about sexual abuse in a convent
This book, which she says she chose to write as "people around me have the right to know what happens inside the prison-like enclosures in their very midst", was first published in Malayalam, but Jesme wanted it to be released in English.
The book, which is a shocking expose of what goes on behind the four walls of a convent, talks of nuns who come from underprivileged backgrounds being treated as menial labourers, of the church trying to keep the SC/ST seats for anyone who can afford to pay for them, and of rampant same sex and opposite sex relations between nuns and priests.
Does anybody has info on the release of the book and whether it is availabe on any special site for free download.!

log ...Rest assured it will be in English soon and it is not the only book that has written about this subject.
We all know it happens. We do not condone it but as there are still sadly parents that allow their very young children be sent to convents and seminaries it will continue.
Sad state of affairs and unless the Vatican puts their foot down it will never change.

/-a-t-/ britexpat ...SC/ST are the short forms of Scheduled Castes/Schedule Tribes. These people, due to their socio-economic backwardness are given special consideration under the Indian Constitution. This comes under fifth schedule of the constitution. Hence the name Scheduled Castes/Schedule Tribes.
They have reservations in all aspects of Indian life. In schools, colleges, employment etc etc.

How come a Lebanese came to ...How come a Lebanese came to know about an incident taking place in a remote part of India? It has also not appeared in the mainstream media. Unless of course this person is an Indian and Keralite to boot.

Lesbianism and homosexuality ...Lesbianism and homosexuality in a closely confined society. So, what's new ? The Church has known about these activities all over the world and turned a blind eye.
Should we be shocked because its in Kerala ? I think not ..
What I find surprising is that Sister Jesme "endured" them for three decades. Why didn't she leave ?

^May be because she thought ...^May be because she thought it will bring dishonour to the name of thy Lord, Jesus. Just shows one shouldn't be looking for God in a convent. Bahoo said

OK, I will say it again ...Not that I do not believe that such things are possible, but I think this story is made up by anti-catholic elements in India.
By the way, "scheduled castes" are low caste people who have been excluded and disenfranchised from Hindu society for centuries and longer.
This is what sssoft is referring to politely as their 'socio-economic backwardness'. Like I said, it is not their backwardness, but the backwardness of the very caste system.

About what Bahoo said: ...Nobody would ever "look for God in the Kaaba" except someone who thinks that God is to be located in some physical space...
that is an idol-worshipper.
So, contrary to this Bahoo's implication, Muslims do not look for God in the Kaaba.
Also, to be fair, nuns do not look for God in a convent. I don't know what they look for in there, but its not God.

habib.. ...Sexual harrassment and sexual abuse amongst the "religious orders" is documented in all societies all through history.
I am sure it occurred. i just question why she waited so long to bring it to light..

habib_nuh, Bahoo was a ...habib_nuh, Bahoo was a muslim and much better than most. Finding or looking for God does not mean it in physical sense but a connection with God. What he is trying to say is that rituals, mosques or churches cannot make you closer to God unless you have sincerety in your heart.
