1.9 million or 1.6 million ...1.9 million or 1.6 million (and what's 40thousand in such accuracy!)... who cares, it’s only the Qatar Statistics Authority who says so. we all know how credible and how Qatari authorities function (or not)!
Any figure would only be published with a political message underpinned to it!
All we know is that the majority are laborers and other professionals employed by the construction industry, busy building apartments that they would occupy if they wouldn’t loose their jobs once they are ready...
It's incredible but sad to see that it’s only in these statistics that laborers in Qatar are considered equally as any other Qatari citizen!
In other words, the survival of Qatar's image greatly depends on propaganda like the 1.9 million inhabitants in Qatar.

It would still be condensed at nights these days, specially on the weekends, because of heavy shoppers buying souvenirs and all. It will remain crowded at nights until mid to end of July, that's when most of expatriates will travel away.

Logic... Even though Dubai ...Logic...
Even though Dubai and Qatar are still in stages of denial, or obviously desperately trying to hide the truth, a recession is a recession and people are being fired or declared redundant everywhere. It hits both managerial and labor levels.
What is bad is that a lot of expatriates are leaving that have families, as these contracts are the most expensive. This will have an effect on all support-services. For instance schools, the more family contracts are canceled the bigger the chance that schools will start to suffer, with the related consequences.

The next day in the newspaper. Small corner article with the header:
"ASIAN EXPAT COMMITS SUICIDE"

Guys!!! The Qatar Statistics ...Guys!!!
The Qatar Statistics Authority reports the numbers , by taking into acocunt the new RPs issued for all the classes, including employment visa and family visa( not on visit basis). They only consider the people whose RPs are cancelled as people who have left the country. So their numbers are based on some solid work.
The fact of the matter is that many companies have laid off people or advised people that they would be out of jobs. therefore, many companies were waiting for summer so that the schools get closed and the staff whose children were in school, they can leave the country for good.
This is a direct effect of the prevailing economic crisis in the world.

I wonder if the 40,000 is a ...I wonder if the 40,000 is a net figure or a gross figure? i.e. does it take into account people who have arrived to work in Qatar or not? If not, then the number of people leaving is probably more than 40,000, plus those that have 'skipped' and not had their RP's cancelled yet.

One thing is that it cannot increase.... ...One thing is that the population cannot increase....due to:
1. The global recession...companies are not mass recruiting but are cutting jobs as many projects are delayed or postponed (Companies cannot continuously keep paying salary for hundreds of workers for a job "sometime" in the future).
2. Tbe banks are at their wits end to get their money back invested in the realestate. So no new massive investments.
3. ....and now its summer vacation for the locals....they are all outside the country.... :)

not much of a celebration... ...this is quite a very interesting breaking news for those who wish to get rid off of so many never ending complaint like traffic, sky rocketting rental payment to count the few. Obviously, the first conclusion that any could come up with was a formula of reduction of population = reduction of society anxiety and problem (pls refer to what stated above). Yet if we just see bigger picture of this, population decrease/increase connotes bigger impact in its country's economy. The effects of a declining population can be adverse for an economy which has borrowed extensively for repayment by younger generations. Economically declining populations are thought to lead to deflation, which has a number of effects.
