A Filipina in California has been accused with the embezzlement of $130,000 or more than P6 million from an architectural firm where she worked, an online report said on Tuesday.
According to Recordnet.com, 37-year old May Yonzon Torres is just one of at least five San Joaquin County residents accused of stealing money from their employer.
Torres has been charged with a two-count complaint with grand theft of personal property totaling more than $100,000 from 2005 to 2008 and falsifying the corporate books of Architectural Amenities Inc., where she worked as bookkeeper.
The report quoted San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Stephen Taylor as saying that Torres was accused of using their company checkbook to pay herself and her relatives, effectively falsifying the payroll.
Taylor reportedly asked Judge Richard Guiliani of the San Joaquin County Superior Court to have Torres booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.
However, the judge just asked Torres to turn over her passport, preventing her from returning to the Philippines.
