Best British school in Doha

Expat_Boy's picture

Hi fellow Brits!

I'm very likely to accept a job offer in Doha. I'll be moving from the UK. I've got two kids - one aged 8 and the other aged 4. Is the best British school 'The Doha Montessori and British School'?

Do they give priority to British expat kids?

Regards.

Yup! British and people with British passport are priority in any British school here and having a smart kids is a plus! The best British School as far as I know are Doha College and Doha English Speaking School. Here's the link for you for all the school here in Doha.

You have to bring your kids records from their previous school they attended and they will contact you after they check on your kids records and they will test them.

That's why I gave the link for all the school here in Doha for him to start ringing them, to get more accurate answers directly from Schools rather than just relying on our answers here.

joe90 said No comlaints for Doha College and DESS ...

As a private tutor I meet parents from many different types of schools. So far, I haven't had any complaints regarding students from Doha College and DESS. Parents with children at other schools often complain of excessive pressure to perform. The other complaint is that those falling behind are not supported.

The schools in Doha are just money machines, and they do not offer any where near the quality of either state or private schools in the U.K. Fees/charges/supplementary fees, and it is not cheap......for the same prices, you could send your children to a good private school in the U.K.

My children often come home, and say they spend 90% of their day on the internet??? What is that about!?!? If I confront the 'head teachers', their response is one of apathy and pleading ignorance, with promises of, 'I will look into it', a bit like, 'the cheque is in the post'.

Get a real feel for the school you choose, spend time in the classrooms during lessons, speak in depth with the form teachers, and quiz the head teacher at length!

Better still........stay in the U.K.

I second Spider6spider's comments....
late last year, it rained for a few hours each day for two/three days. The school closed for a week, because of flodding, in the classrooms.

I have also since found that should you apply for (Doha College) your application only last 1 year, then you have to re apply, paying the application fee again. I have heard of some parents being on a waiting list for three years.

I have been told that DC is only now (Feb 2010) starting to process applications from Dec 2008.
Money grabbing *$#/-a-t-/* they make my blood boil.

Another thing, since arriving here, my kids had to wait months to get a place in school. Now they are in school, (for the last year) they are being held back by the larger number of Non English speakign kids.

So if you can get through the gloom the UK is still in from 1960, stick with it, they will close the free entry immigration door some time. So hopefully your kids can get the education You want them to have.

Good luck to any that think of coming here.
