DFA started issuing the new computer readable passport, if your wife will be applying for a new passport it will be easier for her to visit the DFA website, that's www.dfa.gov.ph and make an appointment so that when she goes there, it will be easier. The expedited passport now takes 14 working days while the regular processing takes 21 working days. if you have a child less than 8 years old, personal appearance wouldn't be necessary. tell her to come early even if she has an appointment because the line is terribly long...make sure to have pictures taken properly or better yet have their picture taken in the studio inside the basketball court because they have been strict with the pictures now. it shouldn't be digital photo, the ears must be visible, and the background color has been changed.
i just had my passport ammended a couple of weeks agoand i couldn't believe our passporting system has been terrible!

DFA: Not true green passports valid only until end 2009
abs-cbnNEWS.com | 02/05/2009 5:36 PM

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday announced that green passports are valid until their expiration date.

“The Office of the Consular Affairs of the DFA wishes to inform the international community to honor the validity of all machine-readable ready passports (green passports) until its expiration date,” said DFA spokesman Bayani Mangibin in a text message to abs-cbnNEWS.com.

Ambassador Mangibin made the clarification following an advisory allegedly issued by the DFA’s travel agency section. The advisory is circulating among overseas Filipinos.

In the advisory, it says that effective January 2010, green colored passports will no longer be accepted.

It continued with a list of new requirements for the application and renewal of the Philippine passports.

“All green passports are valid until their expiration date,” Mangibin said.

janeyjaney said passport renewal noobie! ...

Hello po.

Maitanong lang since hindi pa ako nakakatapak sa embassy natin dito sa Doha kahit na I've been for 3 years.

Kulang ako ng 1 month more or less. Haha

Wala na bang ibang way? Hindi ako makarequest ng extension for my passport? Or kailangan ko talagang i-renew ang passport at i-postpone ang trip?

Hayy.. hassle. Iniiwasan ko pa naman pumunta ng embassy natin dito.

Please advise naman po.

Thanks.

janeyjaney's picture

janeyjaney said Passport Renewal and Extension ...

Anyway, since no one has even bothered to respond to my post. Here's how it went with my passport renewals.

Earlier today, I went to the embassy to have my passport renewed and extended for another year. I really needed to extend it because I'm scheduled for my holiday by the end of August.

I was given this information when I called them yesterday. I've tried calling them countless times luckily, I got to speak to someone very sane and helpful.

I told him that I'm scheduled to leave Qatar in a few weeks and that I don't think by renewing my passport alone will be enough since you all very well know that it takes at least 1 month to process it as of late. So, I told this gentleman my problem and he suggested that I should have my passport extended. Which only means I have to pay another QR80.00 to have it extended for another year.

By the way, if you're having your passport renewed be sure to bring with you the following:

1. Photocopy of passport
2. Photocopy of current visa
3. Photocopy of the back page
4. 4 passport size photos (I really advice you to go to Kodak-Ali Bin Ali in City Center as they are the ones who produces the standard photos for the new passport. So when in Kodak just tell them you'll need photos for renewal of your passport. The lady there knows already the exact specifications. No need to explain it to her. :) Wear something with a collar. Also, I've seen other photos being rejected as it was not meeting the requirements. Just to save time and the effort, I highly advise you to do the same).
5. Filled up form for renewal which can be obtained easily when you arrive at the embassy.
6. QR200.00 cash. No ATMS at the embassy.
7. Lastly, your original passport.

**You will get an SMS from the embassy saying that your passport is ready to be collected. If one month has already lapsed and you still haven't received the SMS, call their office to get an update.

Passport extension for one year requirements are as follows:

1. Filled up form for extension. They will ask you why you need to have it extended. If you need to go on a holiday, just let them know.
2. Original passport.
3. At least 2 photos (same as no. 4 above).
4. QR80.00

Please note that you can only file for extension when your passport is currently under renewal process. Don't worry, passport extension takes only a day. You get to receive your original passport with the stamp stating that it's been extending for one year at the end of the day if they're not busy. But I opted to pick it up the next day as I'm not patient enough and I needed to go to work. Once your NEW passport is ready, the extension stamped on your previous passport will no longer be valid. :)

Also, get there early so there aren't many people. I arrived at around 0720am. People started coming in at 0730am. It's good to always be on time. Be sure to have everything with you! Don't forget to bring a pen! Btw, they have a photocopier. 1 page = QR 1.00. Just FYI.

All in all, it was my first time to experience going to the embassy having been living here in Qatar for 3 years. It's not that bad as everyone has posted here in QL.

I find them quite helpful although, the embassy reminded me of a quaint NGO office back in the Philippines. I hope they can do something with the ambience as it just reminds me of the dingy areas in our country.. as well as our flag, it's faded and old. I hope they do something about that. Well, soon enough though.

sa madaling salita dapat siguro mag-renew na (kahit okay pa yung validity ng iyong "green" passport) habang maaga para walang hassle.

"It was initially rumoured that effective January 2010 onwards, all handwritten (green) passports will no longer be valid regardless of their original expiration date. Officials from the DFA clarified that the green passports will expire as scheduled on their original expiration dates. [6] However, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) requires all member states to issue machine-readable passports by April 2010, hence some countries may deny entry to Filipinos still in possession of the green, hand-written passports. dazzle's picture

dazzle said Camille, in addition ...

you still have to have the passport stamped in Qatar embassy in the Philippines.
if you want you can call me, i'll pm you my number.
I already got my son and my mother, though they're both under my husband's sponsorship?
By the way, is your husband here in Qatar as well? coz if so, he has to do the sponsorship...
Basically here are the processes and things you need to prepare in order to get your baby from the Philippines...

1. you'll need the copy of his (baby's) passport
2. if you're husband is here, as i have mentioned, he needs "No Objection Certificate" from his employer regarding the sponsorship of the baby... (or if the husband is not here, you can ask for the "NOC" from your employer)
3. your birth certificate/marriage contract (NSO or photocopy will do)
4. your husband or your RP / passport copy / visa copy
5. filled application form (this usually comes in Arabic) - i asked our PRO to do this for me (i don't know if its called MANDOB or MANDOP, every office should have one... this is the one who usually facilitates your government papers... just for info...)
6. sometimes they ask for salary certificate, from the employer and/or from the bank (might as well ask your PRO, they know everything to prepare, or ask your office personnel)
7. you have to go to the immigration for the application, FAMILY VISA is the one for the baby.

My baby got a family resident visa. we paid QR200 during the application/release.

Then another QR400 for the visa stamping here in Qatar. that's good for one year.

After you completed this and you already received the visa, you have to send it to Qatar embassy in the Philippines for the stamping. Requirements: 2x2 picture of your baby, white background, 2 to 4 pcs (sorry, can't remember), original passport of the baby, fee is around 400pesos if you'll send thru DHL... (for visa stamping in the Phils. you can just go to DHL and they will process everything, after 5 working days, you will receive the stamped passport...)

If you have somebody in the Philippines who can process all these, it will be better for you. (my sister did it for me. :p )

after the visa stamping in the Philippines, then you can book the ticket... (actually you can also do the booking after the release of the visa here, but just for assurance, you can do that after stamping in the Philippines...)

Hope it helped you...

Regards and good luck...
