Treatment for anti-social behaviour : Send to Siberia

stealth's picture

German authorities exasperated at the antisocial behaviour of a 16-year-old boy have sent him to a remote Siberian village for an "intensive educational experience", it emerged yesterday. The unusual measure by youth welfare officers in the central state of Hesse raised fresh questions about how to deal with delinquents who have been blamed for a series of ugly crimes.
The boy, who has not been identified, was dispatched east after behaving violently in school and at home and attacking his mother. He is being forced to fend for himself in boot camp-style conditions in the forlorn village of Sedelnikovo, several hours drive from the city of Omsk, in the western Siberian interior.
He has had to cope by collecting and chopping firewood to make his own fires, digging his own toilet and pumping water supplies from a well. He will stay there for nine months, separated from family and friends, the internet and television, under a programme designed specifically for him.

Ahhh...I didn't know that "isolation" was a way of treating violent people.

One of the hardest things for us to do in our human nature is to just stop what we are doing to allow God to produce in us what only He can produce.

Thats a bit extreme? Usually Juvenile deliquents have underlying issues that need to be dealt with within their own environment, they dont behave like that because they feel like it...They should be looking at what these issues are and dealing with them and not send the "problem" away. The living the tough life may teach the boy about hardships of some people lives, but what happens when he returns home?

but as far as i know ... kid's behaviour is reflection of the parents. If you brought up in a violent environment ... the kids would end up as a violent person. Only an opinion though ...

novita, I was initially brought up in a violent environment but I turned out to be a kid who was scared of everything...scared of facing meeting and talking to people...its just recently (after meeting the world out there as it is...after being exposed)that I gathered courage to talk out...I do still suffer consequences though, of being brought up in such a situation...such as wanting to submit to others...makes me more of a masochist. theres hope though. the fact that i understand my problem might help me overcome it.

Don't think that's right Novi, I've met some lovely people, but their kids are brats lol. Sometimes the behaviour of the child might be influenced by their peers (those of similar ages)

I lived in Germany for over 20 years and the kid must have been consistently bad to be sent to Siberia. Germany is very lax as far as I am concerned when it comes to crime and punishment. He must have pushed really hard several times to get this punishment. Just like the article said....

"German authorities exasperated at the antisocial behavior of a 16-year-old boy"

Maybe if he sees what he is missing because of HIS actions he will return and appreciate what he has when he gets back. If he doesn't then they should send him back for good.

It is a fair method in my opinion because kids who are antisocial and are from non German parents are sent back to their home countries after several warnings and punishment. Even if they were born in Germany. What do you do with a local who is anti social? send him to Siberia for a while sounds like a fitting punishment. Be anti social then be sent where you cant socialize or interact with people.

Bet he wont get up to no good when he comes back....

Kids are way too spoilt these days, and the ones who can not appreciate how good they actually have it, need to be shown what life can be like.
I am all for it.
Of course, this kind of punishment has to be considered long and hard before it is executed.

Reminds me of a book I read, "holes" by Louis Sachar in which bad boys were taken away to isolated places where they were made to dig a hole every day in the hot sun, to turn them into good boys

It was like a punishment...but behind the scenes certain ppl were trying to find buried treasure, using these boys...the whole story turns out to be something else...but the method used seems to be same as the one used on the German boy
