I predict terrible traffic ...I predict terrible traffic that will lead to more global warming.
Khanan said
some ...momerundum/protocol will be signed and that will be referred as Doha Protcol/Doha COP Agreement (as in Koyto) and then no one will adhere to it.
Khanan said
Bachus ...that is even predicted by the authorities, MoI and ASHGHAL.

Increase in carbon footprint.... ...With delegates flying in from all over the world, using transportation with combustion engines and all the ancilliary activities while they are in Qatar....Qatar will continue to hold the HIGHEST CARBON FOOTPRINT IN THE WORLD!!! actually the numbers might increase cause Qatar currently stands at 55.4 tonnes of carbon dioxide per person (10 times the global average)

Tomorrow Qatar will ...Tomorrow Qatar will officially inaugurate the Pilot CNG refuelling station for CNG buses that would be used in a shuttle service for the participants...atleast Qatar will boast of this little improvement towards reducing smog.

Well,I tried to rent a car ...Well,I tried to rent a car two days back, but most of the rental company that I've been to said that ALL their cars had been fully booked for the convention...which make me wonder ,exactly how many people is attending this conference :s

Wow! What next? How about ...Wow! What next?
How about building a whole city in the desert, with the need to import nearly everything and to get there we will all drive our 4x4s and not worry about the gas prices as it's so cheap!

Why couldn't the conference ...Why couldn't the conference be held "virtually"? Then there would be no need for anyone to travel, use resources (most imported)or disrupt the already dire traffic (is direrer a word?).
Bringing all these people here which already has the largest carbon footprint in the world seems counterproductive to say the least.

well said marycatherine! I ...well said marycatherine! I think it more of a show off them a serious conference. Not only does this country have one of the worst carbon footprints, it hardly recycles or encourages to recycle !

I don't live in hope.... ...Sadly it's just another talking shop. Hot air. The chances of producing any significant agreements are Zero - in my opinion.
And the irony of holding it in one of the least environmentally friendly countries on Earth will not be lost on many delegates. Qatar should think carefully before hosting conferences like this. Will the overall impression of the nation gained by attendees be positive? I rather doubt it.
I believe QP are currently flaring off even more sulphur laden gas near Messaieed than usual. Tons of the stuff going up in smoke.

Well said, I agree IanW. ...Well said, I agree IanW. It's too bad that Qatar will not learn anything from this conference. Recycling is really needed in Qatar, especially with the growing population.

May be Doha protocol and Doha ...May be Doha protocol and Doha Declaration might have some good results such some mandatory guidelines this time instead of some voluntary ones.
Lets see. Now or later earth will be destroyed completely as per all the major religious doctrines. This is really contradictory topic for me.

I'm just hoping they will ...I'm just hoping they will have a publicity shot in the Gulf Times of a bunch of guys sitting behind a long table with a log-printed background.
Once I see that, I will know that the environmental crisis is solved.

I've been searching for ...I've been searching for lobster and Krug champange for a week now and all the hotels are sold out. Damn delegates! I've tried to rent a BMW but they are all being used as well.
UkEngQatar said
QDCL and now the delegates ...QDCL and now the delegates are complaining that the eateries in the the convention are highly over priced, even the European and US is complaining, was on the back page of the Gulf time yesterday!
It appears that the delegates have ended up spending much more than they bargained for. Since now some of them are going hungry during the COP18 summit they can not concentrate and hence they will be no major outcomes!

are the industrial countries going to reduce emission?
will we continuously have buses using gas as fuel?
are we going to recycle our plastic, paper, glass...etc, or will everything end up as trash, as usual?
Is pollution going to be less?

They are working overtime. ...They are working overtime. The convention was supposed to have been over yesterday(Friday - 7/12/2012) but they couldn't hammer out an agreement between the developing and developed countries on many fronts. I have heard they will meet another 2 to 3 days, till about tuesday to come to a conclusion. The Kyoto protocol needs to be updated as it's expiring soon.

Qatar, the world's third ...Qatar, the world's third biggest exporter of natural gas, is also the world's biggest per capita emitter of carbon 50 tonnes a year, compared to 17 for the US and 1.4 for India. The country makes the majority of its $170bn annual income from oil and gas.
The level of wealth of Qatar and their responsibility for emissions means that they should be contributing. It would add a lot of momentum to the talks if they made a financial pledge, and would encourage other countries in the region to show solidarity and help countries that are afflicted by the burning of fossil fuels.

Qatar & Saudi Arabia, into doing more on climate change and using a small slice of their oil wealth to satisfy developing country demands for funds.
