Qatar Living "Robot Zoo" photo shoot

tallg's picture

It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce the details of the next Qatar Living photo shoot;

Subject: The Robot Zoo

Location: The marquee by Orry on The Corniche

Dates: 13th February to 2nd March

Submission: A maximum of 4 photos added to the Qatar Living flickr group and tagged with "robot zoo" before midnight 2nd March.

For more information about The Robot Zoo please visit the official website. (Don't worry that it doesn't mention coming to Doha, I've seen it with my own eyes. It's definitely here!)

The exhibition actually runs from 13th February to 20th April, but we don't want the photo shoot to drag on for that long. Opening times are 8am to 8pm (2pm to 9pm Fridays) and there is a QR5 entrance fee (which goes to charity). Mornings will see more group bookings (schools etc) but it will still be open to the general public. If you wish to arrange a specific date & time for QL members to meet and take photos then please do so via the comments below.

While the exhibition is clearly aimed at educating children I think it will provide a good opportunity to take some interesting photos, and being indoors will test your skills with the flash, ISO settings and your ability to keep a steady hand!

For help with submitting your photos please refer to this previous post. Feel free to PM me or leave a comment below if you're having difficulties.

Note that the dates quoted for this event in recent newspaper articles are incorrect. I have been down to the marquee and spoken to one of the organisers who gave me the details above.

Is post processing allowed in the contest?

Thanks.

I have no objections to it ivan. If necessary I crop & rotate, adjust levels and curves, boost saturation etc. I normally draw the line at cloning things out of the picture. However, I'm very much learning the basics of PP at the moment, so any advice or links to guides would be greatly appreciated!

Ronin said Robo-zoo a practice run for a new hobby ...

I have just started the hobby and I hope I can get tips from you guys who are into DSLR and all the techie stuff about it. Still in the basics and I'd be glad to join a group that's coming on the weekend of the  Robo-zoo photo shoot.

Let me know the sched as to where and when to meet and perhaps make this as a study tour for us newbies in the photography world... MY camera is only about a month old, so I'll need all the tips I you guys are willing to share..

Cheers and see ya'll then...

ivan21 said Hi ...

For me the 2 best brands you can choose from is either Canon or Nikon. These 2 brands are neck to neck when it comes to features. If you are a newbie and planning to buy a DSLR, I suggest you to choose either the Canon 400D or the Nikon D40x. You can check from www.dpreview.com for more info.
