DOHA: For the fourth year in a row, the Sanna Streetball Challenge dubbed “Patibayan sa Ramadan” formally unfolds on Friday 21 August 2009 with “Oragon Nets” posting their 4-point victory, 82-78, over Mayor’s Squad during the opening game at Sanna Basketball Court.

League organiser Henry Desiderio said 12 teams are participating in this year’s conference with the entry of HMC (Hamad Medical Corp.) and returning team “Castaways”.

Perennial champs “Desert Fox” will be sporting a new franchise name “Western Union” while the first game winner “Oragon Nets”, 2-time runner up team was erstwhile called “No Mercy”.

Old teams that continue to join the league were “Doha Pirates”, QAS (Qatar Aviation Services)”, “DJ Astig”, “Lucky 7”, “QCPI-FANAR”, “Doha Dragons”, “Mayor’s Squad” and 2006-2007 champions “Bulitas”.

Unlike regular basketball league, the Sanna Streetball Challenge is a camaraderie game of sorts with the members themselves helping and assisting one another to officiate the games when a certain team is not on play.

“The league is based on the concept of Bayanihan, or the Filipino trait of helping one another as we take pride of having no sponsors coming from outside entities,” Desiderio said.

It would be obviously a grueling match since the games would be played everyday until the first day of Eid aside from these would be played in an open field court that players have to bear with the scorching summer heat.

The daily games starts every 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm and will run up to 33 games.
