Qatar Living behind Qatar 2022 - Go Qatar!

qatari's picture

Rio de Janeiro's successful bid to host the 2016 Olympics looks like a sign for Qatar. It was only last June that Doha's bid for the Olympics was turned down by the IOC (even though some argue that the Qatar bid itself was better).

All the Olympic buzz placed Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid as ahead of Rio as favourites for the 2016 Olypmics. But less than a year later, Rio came up on top.

Qatar can certainly take heart from this. Qatar now has a dream to host the football World Cup in 2022.

If it happens, it will be the first time the World Cup travels to the Middle East and Qatar will become the first Arab country to host this prestigious event.

The road ahead is not easy and is difficult even for the biggest countries. But with the unwavering support and commitment to sport that Qatar has shown, even the impossible looks more doable.

Qatar Living has been tracking the growth of Qatar since 2005 and are fully behind the Qatar 2022 bid! We support the dream and bid for the 2022 World Cup!

We're proud to announce our unwavering support to the country's World Cup bid at the exact moment the Qatar 2022 bid website goes live.

Stand up, Qatar, look the world in the eye, take a bow and make us all proud!

rio had huge popular support behind it, madrid's support among spaniard couldn't even compare to the brasilians.
that, and the fact that south america never hosted the event, while london 2012 is as madrid european.
neither speeches from obama in favor of chicago, nor samaranch heart touching plea to madrid did much of an effect!

does doha has a popular support behind it?
that's what the forum is about.
to be frank, 200-250.000 qatari r with but the rest 1.200.000-1.350.000 is overwhelmingly against (or so i think).why?
olympic much as the asian games, will make taxi rates, house rentals, living costs roar!
can the governement give substantial promisses that prices will not skyrocket? (fixing prices, flooding the market with new transportation and houses to prepare for the eventual rise in demand)

Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. 14% of people know that.

I hope this pulls through. It will be very good for the country but isn't it that Qatar seems to be so confused?

They are more focused on amending their laws when it comes to alcohol, parties etc and now they actually want to try their luck with the worldcup in 2022? Isn't the worldcup one of the largest boozefest there is ever?

But anyway, on a positive note it's still a long way to go. Who knows, Qatar may be really different by then. :)

You wrote' Isn't the worldcup one of the largest boozefest there is ever?'. Well, not necessarily. If soccer transcend nationality, race and religion, why can it also overcome the mere issue of drinking or not.

As I wrote in other thread, will a relatively 'dry' worldcup be a deterrent for fans to support their teams ? Don't think so. For every fans that is deterred by the 'dryness' of the host country, there will be 3-4 non drinkers that can not wait to come.

So, all the best for Qatar (and other prospective hosts) on their Mondial 2022 bid. May the best country win....

Cheers

Antone who tried to get in the final of the Asian games football final, will atest to the farcical events surrounding that, until they let the dogs on us.
Remember it was the only event that the organising committee let the Qataris organise, so what did they do sell tickets for a 25000 seat stadium and move it to a 15000 seat stadium, then bus in 4000 Qatari's in for the final.
Its best they don't have alcohol as they couldn't manage a piss up in a brewery never mind an Olympics or World Cup.

Lets see how they handle England - Brazil next month

atif242's picture

atif242 said exiledsaint, ...

I'm living here since 1980 [Birthdate] and i know what were the rents few years back especially before ASIAN GAMES
.
The moment ASIAN GAMES was allotted to Qatar, they started to demolish areas without proper planning leaving hundreds of families homeless. They were forced to either leave country or live in a miserable living conditions with other families in a same villa or flat. That's why most of the greedy landlords took advantage of it and raised the rents without any hesitation
.
Since then, situation is not under control and it will not be too in future.
.
so my only concern is that WC 2022 must not bring that era again to Qatar. I would really love to see QATAR hosting it but not with such price to be paid by residents

Well the two big drivers of the housing rent were the investment in infrastructure and the major O&G projects. It is no conincedence that since all new projects have been put on hold until the resevoir study on the north field is completed that rents have stablised and started to fall. This couple with all the new completed buildings has affected the supply side. The Asian Games was minor compared to this.

carlitos's picture

carlitos said Realistic, ...

From 2002 to 2004 i have been included in the regional committee of Center Portugal regarding the Euro 2004.

At this time we faced several challenges, the biggest ones of course from UEFA committee and others from our Ministry of Interior, some request from UEFA (FIFA have the same) was that in our 2 towns, a hotel shall be booked for FIFA officials, partners and sponsors, on that also every team requested a hotel fully book for same reasons (team, officials, sponsors, press, etc..)And of course all 5* category
Only with that we can say that Doha will require 25 or most probably 35 5 stars hotels
Then we had to plan transportation even with 3 international airports we had to get help from some small private airports to receive private jets and some additional charters flights (some days this 2 categories represented more than 400 flights).
Then of course the fact to receive more than 2 million visitors in one month, as we know football is a popular sport not so elitist as golf or tennis, so infrastructures included camping parks also (who imagine a camping park in Doha).
MOST VISITORS JUST TRAVELED WITH A VERY MINIMAL BUDGET.
I will not even talk here about entertainment because i dont want to shock nobody. And i will pass the climate, because since i seen (i was there) the final of football Olympic games played at 12h00 under 40C, everYthing is possible.

THIS IS A TRUE STORY AND I WAS PART OF IT, THAT"S WHY EVEN THE PROJECT IS VERY NICE LOOKS A REAL UTOPIA.

ANYWAY GOOD LUCK QATAR 2022

Where to have lunch? dinner? and definitely I can tell you no breakfast. What can you eat? KFC? BurgerKing? Indian snacks? or you dream the middle east food can make the football player run properly during the game?
