this was in the newspaper ...It will be very difficult to pull off especially as many have been living here for over 20 - 30 years already.

The way the costs are increasing.. ...The way the costs are increasing..the old set of expatriates (mostly Asians)will be out by 5yrs time.
I can bet there will be far less Indian & Filipino here as families.Same also for the rest of the Asians. We wont be able to rent an appartmen....even if we managed that, the cost of school fees & grocerries would knock the wind out our sails.
So In 5 yrs time I visualise Doha as a city of Arabs & Non Asian Families with single (Bachelor/Spinster) Asian workers.
I had planned on staying here 10yrs. Now the hike in commodity prices last month hit my gut. The cost of eating out has climbed 25%!!!!
If this repeats year after year I give myself another 3yrs only!!! After this my expenses will be higher than my income = Bankrupcy!!!
All this artifical inflation.... from Room rents to Karwa fares to the cost of commodities...all artifically hiked.
The Bloody games village is still sitting on its rump and farting. And they talk about Barwa housing!!! ITS REALLY NAUSEATING.

Jackmohan ...You make a good point.
I don't think the government needs to take any formal measures to overtly force the bulk of the expatriates to leave.
They are doing it by stealth by refusing to make any changes that would encourage them to stay. They are refusing to deal with the combined issues of inflation and the currency peg.
No measures are being put in place to protect the rights and liberties of the lower paid workers either.
I'm not suggesting that the government should deal with any of these issues - they are free to act as they chose. What I am saying is that I don't think they would shed a tear if many of the asian migrants who are living here near the poverty line decided to return to their country of origin. If they wanted them to stay, there are many things they could do to make life easier for them.

It hits the nail on its head if you consider the Traffic Fines. If any Asian had more than 2 fines a month all year round he better go back home...... bye bye.

I can't see this working. ...I can't see this working. If the workforce is in constant flux you'll not build up any real skills base here. Qatari men may even be forced to get real jobs. It's one thing to be rich enough to be able to import your entire proletariat and skilled middle class. It's another thing to wean yourself off a reliance on either.
I've heard it said that this is in part about protecting Qatar's 'national identity' (stop sniggering at the back, anyone from a country more than 40 years old that wasn't created for the convienience of a remote imperial power). There was something in one of the Gulf business weeklys a few months ago about this with a good quote:
"The status quo is that the unskilled labour pool is not in any position, even if it wanted to be, to erode the GCC's national character of the country. It is kept as far as possible out of mainstream life."

I dont think it will work ...Most of the companies here are investing on training their employees for the job he will handle. I dont think they can ever let go of a well trained employee to do the difficult job.

They don't have to do ...They don't have to do anything SPECIAL to getrid of US. If the same situation continues, people will start thinking better destinations.

I am agreed with you . Now in two months two of my compatriots left for good . They are highly educated personnes -looking for greener pastures elsewhere in the world . Both the familes left - they were here only for one year -then they escaped . I guess this is what would happen to a lots of newcomers .
