Fergie not friendly about Qatar match....
ESPN is reporting that
Sir Alex Ferguson has publicly lamented the scheduling of England's friendly against Brazil in Doha, Qatar, which Ferguson called "some unknown country", and claimed officials arrange friendlies to have a "nice trip on a sunny day"...Ferguson's latest outburst is unlikely to please the FA, while Uniteds many fans in the Middle East could be left disillusioned by the dismissive comments about Qatar.

This comes after it was reported that Serana Williams asked "Does anyone know where Doha is?" when landing in Qatar.
You'd think that people would be more grateful to the role that Qatar is playing in trying to develop and promote sport in the region.

Fergie is right. Qatar IS ...Fergie is right. Qatar IS unknown to most people, and arranging the match there was purely done for financial reasons. Money talks in football, as it does in Qatar.

sandeep - the majority of ...sandeep - the majority of people I mention Qatar to ask "Where is that?" or say "Is that in Dubai?". Qatar has not made it's mark on the World map (yet) so is definitely "unknown" to most.

When my friends ask me about where i am working - even i say Qatar - during discussion they many times say we know Kuwait - even i insist no i am not in Kuwait i am in Doha. Still keep Kuwait as reference.
Even people know more about Bahrain but unfortunately not about Qatar.
about Dubai - One of the most famous cities(country) of the world.

sandeep, I don't know what your issue is but.. I can honestly say Qatar SHOULDN'T want to be globally known at this point and time. With the current labor laws, exit visas and discrimination against bachelors of certain race(s) and nationalities(s) its reputation wont fare well (at least in the west) regardless of how many huge sporting events it hosts.

Hosting events in the modern era with labor laws from an era long bygone is not going to put Qatar on the map in a good way.
You should read more than QL.

The advantages are that the teams are very few. Qatar can easily and successfully hold the Cricket World Cup ....especially as there are fewer countries participating unlike something like the Football Worldcup.
And in Cricket Countries like US, Canada, Netherlands,UK, Australia would participate (the countries that Qatar is trying to catch the attention of ....to populate the Pearl).
Dubai is not dumb to host International cricket matches!!!

Fergie is generally just ...Fergie is generally just annoyed that some of his players are going to be taken a fair distance away for what essentially is a trip to garner votes for our 2018 World Cup campaign. What he singularly fails to realise is that as the international break is until a week on Saturday, all of his England players will be back and have almost a weeks rest before their next Premiership game. And I knew where Qatar was before the game was announced btw ;-)
