Tourism in Doha
Hello everyone,
I'm currently doing my 2nd year of masters in Canada, my research topic is about the attitudes of residents towards tourism development in Doha. Ive been looking around for blogs related to this topic but couldnt fnd anything, thought I'd start one myself.
This is extremely important to me and I only have one month to gather information. So feel free to comment on anything you want regarding this subject. Maybe ur opinions about impacts of tourism development on the society, environment. whether its beneficial or not to the economy or to yourself, and so on. Anything down those lines would be great...
(Just for the record noones user name will be refered to once the information is gathered)
Thank you.

The tourism industry in this ...The tourism industry in this country is at a very underdeveloped stage. The only people who would come here are the expatriates, their families for visits, business people or those who attend conferences that take place here.
Apart from the hotels (which you can find anywhere else in the world) and a few tour organizers for desert trips, that's all, so no or little impact on Qatar.

The Government is infact ...The Government is infact trying to promote Tourism in the State but it may not be fruitful keeping in view the prevailing rules & regulations for getting a visa (except for those 33 countries whose residents get an entry visa), attitude of the Locals towards the Non-Locals & the recent change in rules regarding the Dress Code & Consumption of Alcohol or Closure of Bars etc.

Qatar at present does not ...Qatar at present does not have the infrastructure or the NEED for tourism.
Most people arrive as tourists to try and get work rather than see the sights.

see what sights? it seems ...see what sights? it seems to have a lack culture, any nice buildings? history?? a bunch of people living in the desert and doing a little fishing? no i dont think qatar will ever be a real tourist destination. Even the pearl- just some random thing with loads of accomodation. not that great of a place.
Q is more of a stop over for transit flights..

tourism is another way of ...tourism is another way of bridging people, culture, and languages. through tourism growth is inevitable. when we talk about growth in tourism we are talking about economy, criminality, and ecology.
where there are tourists there is employment. where there is employment there is life. where there is life, there is criminality, where there is criminality there is fugitives. fugitives destroy environment so that they can hide.
i am not progressing in this area. sorry.

and the winner of the ...and the winner of the world's dullest city goes to.......you guessed it!
they could use that in a tourism campaign. you'd be surprised what people spend money on.

Qatar`s vision or priority ...Qatar`s vision or priority is not tourism . So far its not on the top of the list . In the educational side of the country , Oil & Gas and Sports Qatar is actually booming and spending lots of money and working hard on it, and they are doing very well so far. This will definitely grab some tourism in the long run.
To help you in your re-search , you might want to Google the following : Islamic museum website , Alzubara castle , Qatar establishment 18th december , Al Odaid and sandunes .
