child/neuro physiotherapy in Doha??

hannah981's picture

Hiya!
Im a neuro/paediatric physio who's fairly new to Doha and am really struggling to find work. My husband has a job here but I am stuggling to find suitable employment! I started off thinking I wanted to work in a school - as I would do at home, but that is not possible. (i do not speak arabic) then considered hosptals but with all the politics this is not turning out to be a good prospect either. Does anyone know of any private establishmments offering childrens physiotherapy? any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Did you have any luck finding work?

My son has developmental delay and we are in a position where we may have to move to Doha due to my job.

Currently he receives Physio/OT/Speech and Language therapy on a weekly basis to help him out. He is 6 months old, and has had meningitus. We are trying to find out what facilities he will have access to in Doha - do you have any idea?

All the best,

Hi,
I apologise for my late reply to you - I was back home for the festive period!
If you do decide to move to Doha it is definately worth sourcing help for your son before you come. I am definately available to see him - in your home should you decide to travel here and there are centres that provide therapies. Sunbeam nursery particularly has SLT services and Rumaillah hospital has full paediatric rehabilitation services. The standard of care however may be different to what you expect in the UK.
May I send you a private message so I can help you out further. Sometimes it is better to do this than discuss sensitive things on the public forum.
Kind regards

Hi Hanna

I'm moving to Doha in a couple of weeks and will be helping set up a new center devoted to providing assistive technologies for people with disabilities.

I currently work in the NHS with a team of therapists and engineers. Initially I think the centre in Doha will have very little therapy input but I'm sure that over the next few months this will become increasingly important. Do you have any experience with special seating, postural management and wheelchair control? If so, it may be useful to keep in contact.

Regards,
Aejaz

Hi Aejaz!
Absolutely! I have experience with special seating and wheelchairs and was very involved in the setting up of the postural care pathway in the Birmingham area. I have delivered numerous lectures to parents and carers on this topic and obviously worked with many families both here and in Dubai trying to educate people and help children with motor difficulties in preventing deformities and optimising function!
As is always the case in this area I have tons more to learn and would relish the opportunity to keep improving my skills and knowledge!
I also have a number of contacts in Dubai with regards to equipment, orthotics, and dynamic elastomeric orthoses which are in very short supply in Qatar at the moment. It may well be worth while for you to know these people too to broaden the accessibility of equipment here.

I am very excited to hear that something like this is happening and would love to know how you became involved. Are you a therapist? Maybe you could PM me to tell me a little more about what you will be doing. Will you be working with Shafallah and the Qatari population or will you serve the whole population here in Doha! Sorry to bombard you with questions!
Best wishes
Hannah
