Here what happens in some shops
And what happens is that many filipina work in some shops where DVD or restaurants or any other shop give the Qatari a normal look and being nice smiling (This very good because the seller should be nice to sell the items in the shop) and the Qatari may smile and say thanks after buying the item.
On the other hand some filipina will smile and say hi habibi (love) because she see this Qatari more than one time and then this Qatari will think that she wants him, and he will run after her and think badly, but this Qatari should know all filipina are the same.
Some Qatari will not pay any attention and just leave normally or tell her please do not see habibi, and will explain to her that habibi is to be said for husband or boyfriend but not for some one you do not know.
Will let us agree that we should respect each other and respect the limits.

Most Filipina thinks the ...Most Filipina thinks the word "habibi" is just normal as like calling someone "my friend" or "my dear"...and for most of us it doesn't mean anything malicious. It is same as calling an older man "BABA"
Sometimes when I have arguements with an arabic guy collegue or I need to explain something he could hardly understand related to works, I often says "Ya Habibi! listen to me...this is so and so...". But it doesn't mean that I love him or I like him. See, the difference?

But what made the conflict is that he said Filipinas are the same, which is of course, I OBJECT 100% since I am not Ms. Congeniality.. and I don't call an acquaintance (arab nationality),"Habibi", I simply nod and smile as a sign of respect. KALAS! :) No need for further conversations especially if there is no need to have one.. :)
Reminder to those being called Habibi on a first meeting, it doesn't mean anything at all..It doesn't invite you nor is the girl flirting with you.. Maybe, the girl here is just trying to be sweet to attract the customer, plain and simple.

I used to say habibi just to get a person's attention ...and listen...but the other person knows I don't mean it as calling him "my sweetheart".
My sentence usually starts with "Listen good, habibi..." coz sometimes, they don't clearly understand what I say when I speak ENGLISH too fast for their understanding.
I agree, people should be cautious with what they say as this may be understood differently. Try "sadeeq" instead...

Khattak, Khalid showed that he does not have a very open mind ...when it comes to assuming the worst from people who don't share his culture.
