New in Doha -- Feeling Lonely
Hi Folks,
I have taken up a job in Doha and working here for the past 3 months.
On weekends, I lookout for a place where I could play a few games of Pool or just swim for an hour to relax and unwind.
I have no friends here except a few colleagues of mine who are married and thus dont have time for others!!
If anyone knows of a club open to expatriates having good recreation facilities, please do tell me. I could take a membership there and probably make some new friends.

Oasis ...You can join Oasis Beach Club near Marriott on daily payment basis or monthly basis for Gym or yearly membership.
Swimming, Sauna, Jacuzzi & Gym are free in yearly membership. Squash court & tennis court charges are less for members.
If you can afford then Dana Club is good. Ramada & Marriott can also be considered.

Yoga ...Yoga in ICC is a good option. One hour class three times a week for QR 200/- per month is value for money. There are hundreds of associations under ICC that conduct their own activities. India club near airport is also one option.

At least I can find some friends here in QL having common interests and see if some of us can meet up..
Next weekend I shall try to explore these places and see if they are really affordable..
The place looks a little laid back to me,especially having seen Dubai for some 5 years before this work assignment.
marie_2, you seem to be having a good time here 'listening to the sounds of silence'!! do you also like oldies !!
Just last week I had gone to see the Sony Erricson Doha Open Tennis Tournament which was the only time I actually got out on a weekend. I am looking forward to the men's tennis next January.
I know life wont be that dismal as it seems to be now,once you have a few friends.

i have grown up listning to beatles, abba, simon & garfunkle, paul anka, cliff richards etc. and when i bought my own accoustic, i started with jim reeves..
would love to join a band who play such music on weekends here..

I love to have a game of ...I love to have a game of pool with you man! Its been ages since i kicked some ass on the pool table!
But unfortunately, i'm doing a 6 day week, 10 hr day and on Friday's i just stay indoors and chill out. Mostly with my beloved Budwiser or Corona in my hands. Lol

i am doing 10 hours 6 days a week and most of the time my client requests me to work on fridays too..but on fridays i finish up early and sneak out around 2 pm.
somebody said there is a bar with a pool table in umsaieed..
