Qatari students victims of racial attack
The British embassy yesterday said the mission was sorry to hear the report of two Qatari students allegedly falling victim to a racial attack in Scotland.
According to reports, the students were abused and attacked by two Scottish youth while they were waiting in a queue to collect their tickets for an entertainment show.
An embassy spokesperson said: “We were sorry to hear these reports. Happily a lot of people travel from Qatar and indeed from the region, to the United Kingdom. The vast majority tell us that they have enjoyable and trouble-free visits. But on the rare occasions when people have problems (or indeed when Britons in Qatar run into difficulties) we work with our colleagues in the Qatari embassy in London and in both governments to tackle them.”
A local Arabic daily said one of the victims called them to narrate their horrific experience. “We were brutally beaten up and racially abused by the hooligans,” the paper quoted one of the victims as saying. The students, he said, have met Qatar’s ambassador to the UK and lodged a complaint.
A group of white South Africans recently killed a black lawyer because he was black. That was wrong. They should have killed him because he was a lawyer.
