How left handed kids are treated here ?

I don't live in doha..and so can't speak for people there.

But it is a big superstition in almost all muslim countries and some eastern non muslim ones that a left handed child is some how bad.

One of the reasons for this is because the left hand is only supposed to be used for dirty actions such as cleaning oneself after going to the lavatory.

And it is also widely believed that the Devil is left handed.

My son is left handed as well as having a squint in his eyes (which should correct itself) however the muslims parents look at him in horror sometimes and it is very upsetting. 

In my eyes.. he is fine.. and in fact some of the best football players are ambi dextorous(spell check).  And as muslim parents he is able to write with his right hand and left hand because we are still able to follow the sunnah. Which is great!

So don't worry! People can be really superstitious for no reason!

I think I've done alright for myself despite being afflicted with left-handedness!

That teacher(less) belong to the school(less) that  claims using the left hand for eating is Haram.

Like e.g. the Vitamin C myth that it keeps the cold virus away. Scientifically it has been proven that Vitamin C is not at all helpful against the cold virus but still the Doctors in Qatar keep on distributing Vitamin C. If only these doctors read the newspaper, the local ones, they would have known by now that giving vitamin C is useless.

PH, my parents tried for years to get me to eat and write with my right hand to no avail, its not something we can control. If i try  to eat with my right hand i always seem to wear the food and thats such a waste..lol....

 Brother eating with the right hand is not even makrooh. Rather it is HARAM! To do so.. unless someone has a valid excuse and Allah's knows best.

... the word for left handed is "sinistre", which is, in english, sinister, or a bad thing.  My son is ambidextrous, and completely random with it.  Pen in the left, cutlery backwards, but chopsticks in the right (we're western btw).  He also wants to be an "evil genius" when he grows up.  At present he is 7.  I don't think one can ascribe anything, good or bad, to 'handedness'.  And remember it is only 'haram' for a muslim.  Part of the reason we are all here is to learn about, and understand, different cultures.  Doesn't make our kids any worse, just different.  Good luck

alma i know exactly how u feel because even though neither my husband nor i am laft handed, all three of my children are left handed! my son is ambidextrous and can eat with the right hand, but my girls are unable to eat with their right hand and i get to hear all these fatwas from every tom dick and harry. i think ppl should keep this knowledge to themselves or atleast not quote it in front of my innocent children.

being a muslim i understand the importance of using the right hand for eating but just as i cannot eat with my left, my daughters cannot eat with their right. May Allah forgive them especially because their left handed behaviour is His creation.

i believe Islam is a very logical and practical religion and hence as muslims we are encouraged to use our right hand for eating where as we use our left hand for cleaning ourselves after we relieve ourselves(in the toilet). this way we use two different hands thereby increasing hygiene! in my daughters case they do the reverse.

A very learned islamic scholar needs to look into this and give fatwa accordingly. i am sure there must be some sort of relaxation.

i just feel that islamic teachers should avoid using the word devil especially in front of these children. Imagine how they feel. my daughter came home depressed once when her islamic teacher used similar words.

We are supposed to use our brain and not act like parrots or robots. So would you please explain to me the exact procedure for cleaning in the toilet and managing to keep your right hand clean and the left one dirt? I though we use the shower (shattaf) with one hand and the other to clean. SO technically both hands are dirt. Wonder what that genious is talking about. Unless we have showers with camera fitted to it and a joystick you use to aim and shoot.

When i clean my toddlers bum from poo, it takes me three attempts to get him clean and its not an obsession, trust me.....i just dont want any residue there..

However like every thing in Islam it very much depends on the person, efforts and frame of mind at the time.

However the general consesus is that it is haram. And parents should train their children to write and eat with the right hand. And should not be lax in this regard.

however they should also do so with justice and understanding of the childs limitations. And use their wisdom in this. Just as we as people use our wisdom when understanding the generalizations of Islam while aknowledging the seriousness of the issue.

Okay .. yes I agree their are more important issues..

however we cannot make haram halal or halal haram.

The truth is that this is haram! If you are sunni and believe in the sunnah and "authentic" hadeeth then eating with your left hand is haram.

However, as I explained earlier (as supported by hadeeth) that this is up to a persons circumstance. So if one cannot do it then it isn't forced.

I also think this is a very important concept for those who do have the correct aqueedah and manhaj. And an issue a person like myself should focus on. As even I err in this regard.

It is a bigger person who admits they make mistakes rather than one who tries to change something because they would feel guilty should it be true. Whenever we don't do something we should strive harder! And Allah will reward us for our efforts even if we are unable to accomplish the goal.

PH..man you can argue till the cows come home. I am sunni and i dont believe it is haram so pls dont insinuate that if i dont believe this then i am not a muslim......If something is ordained haram then under no circumstance will a muslim will be able to do it, since their are exceptions to the rule therefore it would be wise to say it is encouraged, not haram.

Also as KH said not every hadeeth is true and credible....

In islam something which is makrooh is called disliked!

And something which is haram is called forbidden.

No amount of biased belief is going to change that fact!

It is quite clear that if one believes in Hadeeth then they also believe in the way those hadeeth are interpreted by the majority.

No one is saying you are less then a muslim because your left handed. No one is saying that because you personally find it difficult that you are committing haram.  Rather you have an exception in your case InshAllah And Allah knows best your situation.

And this really does get to me when muslims, such as yourself, take everything in the religion which is haram to heart and think it means they are less then muslims. No one is saying you are less then a muslim because you are left handed. It is not haram to be left handed! It is haram to eat with the left hand for a variety of reasons! Just as it is haram for me to use my right hand for things (but I also find it difficult), and frankly have more important priorities to contend with these days. However this is not for Allah rather it is for our own sake and, in fact, it is a blessing from Allah to be ambidextrous.  

So if you TRULY cannot eat with your right hand despite trying then that does not make you less of a muslim. Nor is it a sin to be left handed. My son is left handed and it is something we as muslim parents embrace. However, eating with the left hand is indeed haram because the messenger of Allah commanded us to eat with our right. Just as cleaning our tush with our right is haram becuase Allah's messenger commanded us to do it with our left. 

The religion is so easy! And you have to let go of that cultural way of thinking that if something is haram... then automatically you are a bad person if you can't help but commit such an act. This is an unislamic way of thinking and not befitting the love and mercy Islam and the Prophet Mohammad PBUH came with. And is also a reflection of how judgemental the muslims have become of one another.

 I meet alot of muslims who often feel a tremendous amount of fear of Allah  in this regard and it does one of two things. It either pushes them away from the truth and they start making excuses and twisting the religion. Or they leave the religion all together. RAther then taking it easy and relaxing by realizing that Allah does not burden a soul more then what they can handle. And he has made his laws clear for us to follow and within them many many concessions (and much mercy).

So it is haram for one to eat with the right hand. However their is a concession for those who are unable! And it is best to try as much as we are able and feel the mercy of Allah if we are unable after trying!

my boyfriend is a lefty but he's the most smart, kind and loving person that i have ever met.. this are just superstitions...

for ur information my husband and i pray five times a day, read the quran. i never skipped a fast in ramadan even if i were pregnant or feeding and still my children are lefthanded!!! now what do u say?

I didnt say i feel less of a muslim thanks, you said it,

I havent taken anything to heart my dear but to me there is a difference to forbidden and makrooh...

My eldest son is left handed also but he eats ect with his right and does the rest with his left.

We had to teach him to eat with his right at an early age. If its haram or not is unknown to me but it is clear you should eat with your right. Haram... or makhroo.. who knows.

 May God protect us from our left hand, left leg, left brain side!! and may He leave me some little brain to keep my "right"eous sanity!!!

how does it matter if the child is left handed or right handed... stop being a foolish person... and the teacher tellin all crap to the kid was not a gud gesture..

haram or not teachers should refrain from using words like devil or hell with innocent children. in my daughters case she felt very depressed , as if she was abnormal or something.

 the sad truth is,we as muslims have different sects and varying interpretations of the quran and sunnah. i dont label shias or ismailis as kafirs or non muslims because i am not qualified enough to make such statements and secondly who knows maybe they are a better person than i and Allah may forgive all their mistakes just for that reason. Islamic teachers in school should keep in mind that the children come from diifferent backgrounds and may have different  set of beliefs(interpretations).

even i have heard theories wherein left handed ppl are considered to be more intelligent than right handed ones. dont know how true they are.

i have three and they certainly outsmart me!!!!
