Saudi Arabia - Al Khafji City

bigfoot's picture

Hello all,

I have been offered a job in Saudi Arabia.  I have been asked to work in Khafji during my contract.

I was offered 65000 per month Saudi Rial inclusive - Married status.  Is this a  good offer?

I have to find accomodation.  Any advice.  What about in Al Khafi?I would like to take my wife there.  She is a registered nurse.

Any advice is most appreciated.

Many thanks

Bigfoot

I don't know, a samll place in Saudi...very traditional.....I lived in Riyadh for 4 years, it was good, but I lived in a very big western compound, .

Would not want to go to a small place there...no way.

Bigfoot, do you know anything about Saudi?

Btw, the salary is ok for Saudi, but not necessarily excellent.

Wow 65000?? I lived in Medina making 12000 plus 25000 housing, got a HUGE place for a year at 8000 (brand new). I was living like an absolute king.. 65000 dude take it!!

Bigfoot,

I don;t know what kind of lifestyle you are looking for.

Imho, it would be very difficult for a western non muslim couple to life in a place like that, especially if there are no western compunds available.

I do not know anything about Khafji.... besides it being rather small.

You said you have to look for your own housing...that suggests no compounds to me.....if you are muslim, or intend to become one,it might be a good place to go to.....But to live in a small place in Saudi as a westerner...no way in my book. But that is just me.

How about medi care? Do you speak Arabic, so you can go to local  clinic? Does youe employer provide medi care for you?

Are there going to be more westerners where you will be living?

Life in Saudi is VERY different from anywhere else, and due to the world situation, not necessarily safe without protection for Westerners.

I do not want to spook you, but you might want to do a bit more research...try this......www.sainsaudi.com

is unstable. Being close to both kuwaiti & iraqi borders, i saw in a special at aljazeera once that "arab" insurgents cross to iraq through there. Most of its inhabitants are Bedouins. so, i'm guessing less interference with committee of virtue (mutaween). Unless you find a closed westerner compound . My advice don't go

It's in the Kuwait/Saudi neutral zone. Many of the supplies for Iraq in the Iran war went in through Khafji and up through Kuwait to Iraq

Bigfoot, can you give a bit more info on how your employer will take care of you? I am very surprised they expect you to find your own accomodation...

I think that maybe because its a small place thats why the salary is so good cos there's nothing there! I know that to get into Saudi hospitals as a nurse is a pain in the neck! I'm not sure that a nurses salary will be too good there either.....

bigfoot said Hi all ...

Thank you very much for all your very helpful comments.

I think that you all are quite right in saying that AL Khafji is a small place and that my wife and kids will be bored to death.

The plan is to live in Kuwait near the border to Alkhafji, in say places like . Messillah, Salwa, Al Zahra and Mishref.

Any one has any information about these places or know of some one.  Any info about accomodation in these area, may be site addresses for a few Estate Agents etc

I grant it that it would be a tad more expensive but at least my family would be a bit more comfortable.

I very much to look forwrad to hearing from you all

Many thanks

Bigfoot

OMG...you will take kids there???

Those places you mention, I take it they are not in Kuwait City?

If not, please, think about this, please!

How about school for your children?

Are there western schools in those places?

I am sorry, but there is something I don't quite understand...your employer can't give you info about those places?

are there some people of this company already working there?

You can also go on www.britishexpatriates.com

isn't a lot in South Kuwait.

I worked in the neutral zone for a time and you would probably be better off in Khafji.

Mina Zoor (the name may have changed) was the biggest town in the neutral zone. I use "biggest" loosely.

bigfoot said Any help much appreciated ...

Sometime ago you drop a line to my request for info on living in Khafji, KSA.

I am off to Khafji in the next couple of weeks

Are you aware of any blog like the Qatarliving where I can log on and look at current info for Expat living in that part of the KSA, I like know whether I should only bring Dollar or Rials or both, favourable exchange rate in the UK or KSA

I am going to stay in Khafji for a little while until my wife joins me then we will look at the current situation and then may go to live in Kuwait City

Try to contact someone working in Khafji etc etc

Many thanks

Bigfoot

I found responses from Alexa extremely helpful and if Alexa does not know of answers to any questions posted on this site, Alexa suggests other sites.
