If you mean Independent schools ...then my daughter attends an Independent school aka Mustaqilla. The condition is that your child should understand, speak, and read Arabic, as the main language is Arabic with English being the second language. If you and/or your husband works in a government firm then maybe you can get all your kids in without having to pay tuition fees, if not they may allow just one child per family in for free tuition fees and for other kids you'll have to pay. Still it all may defer from school to school according to places available etc so do a thorough search first.
Personally I am satisfied, though not completely, with the education offered given that one of our main priorities was that our daughter should master the Arabic language.
Regarding standard of education, discipline etc it will again depend from school to school. Some schools have a majority of locals, but my daughter's school has a mix of nationalities though mainly Arabs.

If you are from the US, then I would recommend ...you send your children to the American School of Doha
www.asd.edu.qa. Make sure your employer pays tuition allowance (and find out for how many children) BEFORE you come. It's an excellent school.

And yes sis Frenchies ...You are right. In fact I've heard similar stories about other Independant boys schools as well. And many non Arabs I know and meet act shocked at the fact that my daughter is attending a mustaqilla due to all the negative reviews of these schools. Thankfully though, AlHamdulillah, my daughter's school is ok with regards to discipline and most kids are keen in learning English as well.

Is there a difference in ...Is there a difference in behavior and respect between pupils and teachers in boys schools and girls schools perhaps Fatimah?

From what I've heard Fubar ...I'd say there is. However not meaning to tar everyone with the same brush, but the schools that I've heard much negative stories about are boys schools that happen to have a majority of local students. And the teachers claimed that the terrible treatment meted out to them were by locals. But of course that's not to say all locals treat their teachers with contempt and disrespect, it just so happens that these students were local and boys.
And I've not heard of such stories coming from teachers teaching at the girls schools. Again maybe cos the ladies I know teaching in Independant Girls' schools have been lucky!

Thanks everyone. Well, we're ...Thanks everyone. Well, we're already here, however my daughter is still only 2 I just wanted to do my homework instead of picking a school at random plus I also know that many schools have a waiting list. /-a-t-/Frenchies, that's exactly what I was afraid of, I worked in some schools like that in Dubai and its a nightmare!! I don't want that kind of experience for her!
In my husbands contract it says they will pay for government schools, I just assumed that meant public schools.
Does anyone know anything about the Collegiate American School?

It wasn't me, sis Frenchies ...but yes friends of mine, and their husbands have had similar experiences as your's, teaching in boys' schools or having their kids enrolled their. Actually one of them had it really bad!
Girls schools on the other hand may not be perfect, but at least they respect their teachers, and give them their rights. Makes you wonder then what(or should I say who?) gives these boys the guts and right to behave the way they do? Are their parents really not aware? Cos in the case of one teacher at least I know some parents completely support the misbehavior of their "golden boys"...grrrr!
