copy and paste  the above URL in Internet Explorer.

My friends had visited this place sometime last year and I had marked it for them.

Well, I can't make is any more simpler.

Just use your mouse and zoom out and follow the road to the place where you can get started.

As far as worth or not worth... Well, you should ask this question to cave hunters...

From my side, I have never visited this place coz I don't have 4x4, but my friends told me, its really not must if you can manage a little humps and bumps.

It looks more like a flat ground with fence around the cave which you can see in the map, and the cave as a straight big opening goes down into earth for about 200 or more meters... The opening is big enough to take a truck, but due to rocky entrance you can only walk.

Do not expect anything more than that... Its just a straight simple big hole in the earth and good thing is you can go till the bottom of it... :-)

Best time would be before noon, coz after noon there hardly any light coming inside the cave as the opening is facing towards east.

I am interested in joining the hunt for some caves. there is 3 well known sinkholes not caves. one in doha seems to be full of trash (go figure).

Same with this cave.  We went to visit it yesterday morning.  I was big but there was no passage.  I imagine all of them to be this way with the soft bedrock and fine sand.  Looked like a cool place for some possible bouldering!  I tried just a little but some rock broke and ew didn't spend too much time down there.  Definatly nice tho, much cooler down ther and not too dark.

there are numerous sinkholes in qatar. Unlikley most sinkholes they are typicaly formed by gypsum bands being disolved rather than limestone

I have a technical paper if any on is interested  ;-)

Yes I agree with you Padger, I think we are all dreaming about caves here. How could I get a copy of your technical paper? I have ran out of leads to check.

joeinqatar said I went to explore the sink ...

I went to explore the sink in the Al Harman Family park here in doha today. The sink is enclosed with a fence and a gate with a locked lock. after talking to a couple dudes they sent me to the the person in charge of the park to find a key to get in. finally found him but he said the sink  is closed and if someone goes inside they will die. I don't know if the ole devil himself comes up and gets you or they shoot you when you get to the bottom.  so does anyone else know anybody that has a key?

Well I dont have the exact GPS coordinates with me as I am offshore.

You have to go on Salwa road towards Saudi border. once you crossed the petrol pump on your side of the road, the one bit off the road and have super market and mosque look for the sattelite station on your left. An overhead bridge is under construction near weather/sattelite station. there is a road going to right almost just opposite to station. Take that road. you might have to turn right on underconstruction road before the bridge as I had to take a U trun to reach that road.

On that small road, take aright turn before the road bends. right next to it a camel farm.

If you cant find the place, ask any of the huys living in those camps. I ended up taking one guy to show me the place.

Its not a fancy dancy cave but still something different than the normal sand dunes. Kids can also go in there.

Hope that helps.

Is a GPS needed to find this cave off Salwa Road?  From 666's directions, it sounds pretty easy.
