Thanks for bringing this up dude.

I have been scouting the news-sites for information on this.

Ofcource it will be on the headlines after it's done. But then the chance to make a profit out of it would've gone. So must anticipate now and act.

It does sound quite logical to revaluate the riyal. Dollar has depreciated considerably against other global currencies. This also causes higher inflation in this region. Previously, the GCC states had decided to act in unison on the issue but i guess there was a meeting in Doha in decemeber and it was decided to defer it.

I read today in gulf-times that an alternate to currency revaluation is increasing the oil output by OPEC. This would help ease the pressue on dollar.  Does this sound realistic? or is revaluation is just round the corner?

I would have thought that they would opt for a mixed basket of currency. They have talked about it for years. I can't see them opting for the pound.

Withnail's picture

Withnail said QAR ...

if Qatar changes it's peg currency it will not be to the pound.   kuwait changed it last year to a basket (which was still about half dollar based), and Qatar would do the same if they went that route.  doing it to a basket is a much safer route.

ROCK - i don't think increased oil will help all that much - it would help the world economy but not the value of the USD (at least not to the point of bringing it back up to what it was several years ago).  the problem for the US is its trade balance deficit.  it's basic supply and demand, and with americans buying sooooooooo much from abroad, the market is flooded with dollars.  so i don't think this OPEC rumour is true.

I think they will either stick with dollars and revalue, or they will adopt a basket of currencies.  nothing else makes as much sense to me than these 2 options.
