Keep prayin/workin Miss!!

 God Almighty hears everyones prayers.

I have always been on the view that there should not be any sort of religious indoctrination in the educational institutions but I guess some people hold different views.

The religious teachings that we are subjected to during our childhood at homes should be more than enough.

adey said  There are no such things ...

There are no such things as Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddist etc children, only children of  Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddist etc parents.   When they become adults then they can choose what to believe.

The indoctrination of children has no place in an educational establihment. Keep that at home.

Teaching about religions and their history , beliefs and practices are fine as long as you are not told WHAT to believe.

As a parent myself, I let my kid decide which FAITH (notice that i did not use the word "religion") she would follow.

It's her (my daughter's) right as she will live her own life...I'm here/ther to support and guide her...

On a serious note....I do agree that relegious matters are better suited for a home environ.

Again, I feel that the "Sunday Chapels " for different relegions at the same school will only widen the perceived divide . "Catching them young" there too...???

What if i become?

PM's picture

PM said I don't see a problem with this ...

It doesn't seem to be any mandatory "indoctrination" program but simply a choice. I see no problem with private schools allowing that choice.

 It's compulsory I believe.

PM's picture

PM said I think "chapel" or religious instruction is what is compulsory ...

and that can be in the form of the religion of your choice. It is a private school and they can make those rules if they choose. I actually find it a positive thing that they are willing to offer religious participation outside of the Anglican or Catholic church.

I wonder if it's possible to be racist to an individual as opposed to a race?

That wouldn't be racist. It would be Mir-ist Tongue out

PM said well, I agree there is confusion ...

a good therapist could help and I have offered up a contact Tongue out

So how are you, QT?  Did I ask you if you saw the film Buffalo Boy?

I'm good PM.  Just finished work!  It's funny how I do nothing for 2 months, and when I'm supposed to leave, people find so much for me to do!

How are you this week?

...and no, you didn't ask me.  Why?

PM's picture

PM said I am good ...

I am thinking of using it in one of my film classes. It's a Vietnamese film. Here's a link: http://www.globalfil...

jauntie's picture

jauntie said Hey! people - the Hindu tutor isn't going to convert Eton! lol ...

If I read the article correctly his role is:

"...to provide pastoral support and religious teaching to Hindu boys at the school, and contribute to school inter-faith activities."

In the same way as other boys of different religions at Eton have always had someone from their own faith there to instruct them in their particular religion.

As the article says: "With the appointment of Jay Lakhani, even the Hindu boys will now be offered the same choice."

So?  What's the big deal!

PM's picture

PM said Yes, that was my point Jauntie ...

I don't see it as a problem; nor do I have a problem with private schools being able to establish their own rules.

A life unexamined is not worth living -- Socrates

jauntie's picture

jauntie said I think it's an OK idea ! ...

Much better than when I was at school and all creeds had to attend the same prayers at Assembly!  Although I don't remember it doing anyone any harm, but then I may not have wanted to say The Lord's Prayer if I had been Hindi, so ....  each to their own!

It also gives the guys a chance to understand each others religions.

QT's picture

QT said Jauntie, PM ...

Now ladies, you're obviously not as insightful as Mir to the workings of the evil "white" empire!

PM, btw, can I borrow the film?

jauntie's picture

jauntie said Well, to be fair, all spicemeup did ...

was post the News!

However, it was his banner headline which made it seem like Eton (nay, the whole of the UK, even)! was going to be influenced by Hinduism, rather than just some tutor was being taken on board as a pastor to tutor the indoctrinated. :D

PM's picture

PM said Sure, QT ...

You can let me know what you think.
