HAS ANYONE DRIVEN FROM DOHA TO BAHRAIN??

PEARLNECKLACE's picture

Yes, I know about travel visas and things but what i would like to know is:

How is the drive?  Scary?

How long does it take?  3 hours???

How long are you stopped at the QA/KSA border and how long at the bridge from Dammam?

If anyone can help me with these I would greatly appreciate it.

THANK YOU

Bahrain, cos it will be like been back in Qatar at the weekends. Its bad enough now, with Qataris, Saudis, Kuwaitis and Emeratis cluttering up the place.

The traffic is dire now, people drive like they are back in their own countries !!

When its only gonna be a half hour drive, the place will turn into a nightmare !!

Bigdaddy said Did it. ...

Time the border not to hit rush hour.

Going there through border was about 15 minutes perhaps I was lucky.

Took about 5 hours but got a bit mixed up at one city. Signs are not good once you come up to cities. Not bad getting to the city but going through it, easy to get confused to come out on other end.

Bahrain border is much busier, really need to time that one, don't get there at 4 on Thursday.

Felt safe always.

Very cool BigDaddy...Do you remember which roads you took?  I know you take salwa to the border but the maps I've been looking at look like you must go west into KSA instead up driving along the coast up to Al Kohbar.

Did you have an arabic speaker in the car? I hear thats a good idea with customs.

Bigdaddy said Sadly ...

I just got a basic idea from the internet and went for it. Can't remember the cities, actually a buddy who lives in SA gave me some directions. Basicly we made it to the first city about 2 hours in, then it took an hour to navigate through the city, must have been a loop road around it but dam if I could figure it out. But it was an adventure. Just read up on it here on the net and you'll be fine.

Can you do routes on google earth??  I downloaded it and I'll be damned if I can't figure out how to do anything but voom in and draw on it.

MR PAUL said WWWesq.at the top, you will see a pic of a ruler..... ...

click on that. then you can choose a straight line or path, the path you should choose. Now just put yer pointer where yer wanna go along and plot the route. The path will appear as you move along. Just have a play around. To erase the path, click on clear.

You can change the distances into miles, kilometers etc. Its really quite simple...

 Have fun

Avoid Hofuf.  I got lost there on the way to Bahrain from Doha. On the way back, I avoided Hofuf with a nice highway.

WWWesq: I can go find the map, scan it, and send it to you if you'd like.  Some of the online maps don't have much much detail for KSA while one did.

You are right.  I mistook the post before yours as another one of yours so I thought you were saying to go around Hofuf.  I don't want to get lost so I'd rather stay on the highways anyway.

Thanks again

baedaebok said Check out the posted map! ...

WWWesq,

I posted a post (Map:  Doha to Bahrain OR Jubail) with an attachment that has a scanned 4-page sketched map.  This is what I used to drive to Bahrain from Doha.  I sketched it after I drove and used the Google map and commercially published GEO Middle East map.

The Google map is useful if you zoom in closely and see all the confusing round-abouts and roads.  GEO Middle East map doesn't have enough detail (like round-abouts) to be completely useful.
