Smoking in Public Places
Could anyone clarify please if smoking in public places is prohibited in Qatar, and/or if not, is it something which is being discussed with lawmakers, in public forums or the media :
1) Office workplace, in elevators, at meetings.
2) Government buildings.
3) Restaurants, movie theaters, shopping centers.
4) Qatari Airways.
5) Gulf Airways.
Thank you for your help.

Hi Moudir, Smoking in ...Hi Moudir,
Smoking in public places such as malls and theaters and I believe offices as well, is prohibited but the law is often not properly enforced.

That is an understatement, ...That is an understatement, it is never enforced. That is part of the problem, the ruler announces a law, but no one has to obey, because that might offend a well connected local person.

No laws are enforced here. ...No laws are enforced here. I think it is law to wear seatbelts and yet most children are driven around standing up in the front seat. It is a law not to use your mobile when driving (I think) and yet talking on the mobile in your car or in the cinema is one of the chief pleasures of locals.

While i ordered the drink ... I asked my son to 'pre-book' softchairs , i have no idea what happened. But I got my drink, sit down, and the Qatari guy next to our table come to us handed a lolly to my son.
'Your son embarrased me by asking me why you smoked while there is no smoking sign on the table?'
Hehe ... kids eh ...

Yr piece is interesting. Are the Qatari that friendly? Well, reading the articles here that no laws are enforced here, much will depend on the attitude of the locals to make the stay comfortable.
I am thinking of relocating to Doha. I have twin offers, one from Doha & the other from Dubai. Evaluating the pros & cosn yet.....suggestions welcome please
