Will my girlfriend be able to find work as a nurse in Doha?

Hello,
I am from the UK I have recently been offered a very good job in Doha and am very keen to take it. However, my girlfriend who is a newly quailified nurse (6 months) would like to come with me. Would she find it easy or difficult to aquire work as a nurse in Doha as she is not married? Also, does she even have enough experience?
Great site by the way..........

Not being married might ...Not being married might cause a problem as living together is not supposed to happen. She would need a sponsor to offer her a job, etc.

Beefy, she will be able to ...Beefy, she will be able to find work I feel sure but may not enjoy it much. I have known a few UK and Australian nurses who left their jobs fairly quickly. There are options though that I would look into such as some of the private clinics etc.
It doesn't matter that you are not married. She will need to be sponsored by her work rather than by you if you were married. That is the only difference. It means the employer has to do a bit more admin wise to employ her but they are normally happy to do that if they want her.
Search Qatar yellow pages and call all the medical clinics to get an idea of what might be available for her.

Thanks very much for the ...Thanks very much for the helpful replies.
Super7, I believe there is a Westerners/American hospital in Doha. If she was able to get work there is it likely that she'd find that unbearable too?

Well it is called the ...Well it is called the American Hospital but that is just a name. It is a private hospital but most of the doctors are Jordanian/Egyptian and the nurses filipino.
I don't know what it is like specifically for working in so don't want to write it off completely for you.
She may also want to do some specific type of nursing (especially for her experience) so I guess you would want to bear that in mind.
One place I would look at is the Weill Cornell medical college. It is a university teaching medicine (to US standards with US teachers) and it is an amzing complex. I know they are making a teaching hospital there at some point and I am sure that would be amazing.

Don't forget also that if ...Don't forget also that if she is to be sponsored by her employer and not a husband, then *until she finds work and the paperwork is finalised* she will only be able to get a tourist visa on entry to Qatar - which may only be for three weeks (extendable to a maximum of 4 weeks)... then she will have to leave the country and re-enter (many people do this, it's only a short hop to Bahrain and can be done in a quick turnaround flight).

Thanks for your replies, I ...Thanks for your replies,
I think it may be best for me to come to Qatar first and maybe hand her CV to some hospitals/clinics to see what's out there for her and if anyone offers her anything. At least we now know she should be able to find work in Qatar as a nurse.

Hamad Medical Centre runs ...Hamad Medical Centre runs the three main Hospitals here and their website’s ‘vacancies’ page is “under instruction. However, if you go to Human Resources on http://www.hmc.org.q..., you’ll get some useful information on housing, etc, and an email address to apply to. I gather staff turn-over is high so vacancies will frequently arise. Most of the nursing staff are Indian and Philippina while doctors tend to be Northern Arab.
The American Hospital doesn’t seem to have its own website.
Good luck!
