Been a couple of times now and very impressed. Both times we had the bento box (Not on the menu - you have to ask for it.) Excellent value at QAR55. Good selection and friendly staff.

I liked the retro interior with circles and oval shaped mirrors .The waitresses were wearing tie with sushi design on it !
I am not a sushi expert so I opted for a bento .It came in a medium sized box with a selection of sushis , mizo soup , noodles , green salad .It was nice for 55 rials .If you wish to select your lunch or dinner a la carte it is rather pricey but you can choose from a large variety of sushis . If you got QR 200 or more for a single dish then the Japanese chefs will make their dishes in front of you at the counter .
It is wise that they added some non -Japanese items to their menu .This way the kids found also something to their tastes ! Service should be faster !
A liter of water QR18 ,service 12 % .

I tried the Friday buffet, it was ok. I didn't like the fact that they have many dishes which are not Japanese. The sushi section also is a bit small, so you get a crowd over it. But the price (99 QAR) is good, not sure if it included service charges.

Sushi Madness ...
I went to Sushi Minto on Friday for its brunch and couldnt believe how good it was. I keep hearing about how expensive it is as a Sushi Restaurant and saw the Ad in the paper last week. 99 QR for brunch and the food was excellent. of course you expect these type of offers to offer a lesser quality or smaller portions but it didnt. a full array of sushi and maki rolls, Asian style hots dishes and international food for those who dont like sushi. Ive got to say i thought it was excellent value for money and especially as fish is so expensive. When i was there they told me about Sushi Madness on Sunday's & Monday nights. Me & the wife decided to pop along and were surprised as to the food on offer and the excellent vibe in the restaurant. They are offering an unlimited serving of sushi, sashimi and maki rolls but with the pleasure of it being served at your table in boats. We could only manage 2 boats much to my dismay especially as this was only 99 QR per person. I think what Sushi Minto is doing by offering a normally expensive style of food for manageable prices is brilliant. I dont know how anyone can complain they are expensive when after all they are serving a high end lifestyle product. our total bill last night was 266 QR and we left there very happy. All i can say is to all those that have not tried it you should, to all those who complain about the price, you shouldnt and to all those who intend giving it a go, see you there as i am now a converted Sushi Minto fan and will no longer be taking my business to Neo or La Cigale as they are way more expensive than Sushi Minto and certainly not as good

Keep it up Sushi Minto

Been to Minto a few times. Few things to talk about.

Quality of fish was good, but after talking to the chef, i realized that their process of making the sushi and Sashimi is not the healthiest out there. In order to kill the parasites found in fish especially Salmon, the meat must be frozen for a short while at a certain temperature, that varies according to every type of fish.

I know this is surprising to hear, especially that our concept of fresh fish is always the minimum time between fishing it and consuming it. True, but when it comes to sushi/sashimi, there is this catch. It is like, who thought about aging steak meat would yield to a better anyways ;)...

Maybe it is because this is new to Qatar, that they do not apply these required techniques, but what surprised me the most is that even the chef himself did not get my point in asking him this question, even though this is considered a 101 rule for making Sushi.

I am not complaining and I would still go again to that place, but someone should be aware about these things as it could be very dangerous ( much more than eating raw red meat )

I still have to visit other sushi places but i am kinda positive i will face the same issue elsewhere ;)

thanks,

The website that tutor1 attached on his review should be viewed by everyone as it is very educational. The sushi outlets in Qatar should also start doing the necessary in their preparation of raw fish in order to avoid the tapeworm infestation. We don't want to have that long object inside our body. Thanks a lot for that information, Tutor1. You deserve to have the five stars rating.

Nice decor, nice setting, but service sucks ... Staff and manager know nothing about sushi or the menu for that matter .. For what they charge, not a good value at all ....

The place is bad.

i ordered 3 things, all of them had something wrong.

1 eel sushi, which was cold. the eel is grilled, but it was cold. this means it is taken out of the fridge.
1 tuna roll, the tuna had an opaque color to it, and little flavor.
1 'americanized' roll, which had one ingredient missing, and the salmon was not fresh. it was dry, and very thin.

all of this was 100QR. i left hungry and disappointed.

Quite not expensive, but nothing much in the plate in regards.
A cantina for quick lunch, not a dinning restaurant

My wife and I tried this restaurant for lunch on Monday as we were craving Japanese and had seen Sushi Minto when we ate at Johnny Rockets.

At the time there was only one other customer at the table. On sitting down and viewing the menu our first impression was; This is expensive. 22 Riyals for 2 piece ordinary (on plain rice) tuna sashimi is expensive. But you don't go there for ordinary sashimi. Their speciality is exotic sushi, things I had never seen or tasted before, and they excel in both taste and presentation.

There is no way I can remember the names, but we had sushi rolled in squid(?) presented on an ice block, sushi rolled with colourful green avocado and red salmon and even sushi with mango.

I thought all this was worth the experience.

Few things I didn't like; if you are going to be charging these prices, do not use disposable chopsticks. and I would like a little more then a Japanese teabag in pot for 16 Riyals.

All up it cost 200 Riyals for 16 pieces of sushi plus tea.

Good experience but pricy.

My better half, daughter and me went to have dinner at Sushi Minto last night. Here is my review of the place.

Decor: Not very Japanese, apart from the red and black which is very common and can be found in all Japanese stores. Chairs are all proper dinner chairs, not typical of fine Japanese dining,(comparing it to Zen in Japan).

Food: The salmon is ok, not the best sushi that I have tasted. And, the downfall is, they serve soy sauce mixed with mirin, and that makes it sweet. I am sorry but I do not expect my sushi being played with a sweetener. There is a reason why Kikkoman is served in all Sushi Bars. Plain Kikkoman with a dash of wasabi is the GOLDEN RULE for sushi. I do not understand why they had to mess it up.

We ordered for two bento boxes which had good amount of food more that we could finish really. The only problem that I have is, the sushi is not prepared the Japanese way, there is a freezing point. There are protocols, and I do not want to end up with food poisoning.

I would have to reconsider going back there. I think, I will be feeling a lot better dining in Sakura. I would rather spend money on proper food than flying back to London inflicted with E-Coli and listeria. Being a nurse myself, I know, I would be in a side room and completely isolated.

Bill: 197 QR is not bad for two bento boxes, a can of Pepsi, a mango shake (not fresh though), and a bottle of sparkling water.

Overall Rating: 2 stars due to health reasons.
