Salary ranges in Qatar

Dear everybody

I would like to open this forum to discuss one important issue that is to be salray ranges in Qatar. Evaluting any employment offer can be much easier if we have done a research of slary range for a ceratin position which may help us to know wether or not it is a fair offer. Therfore, I would like to ask about the availability of sources that tells us about different amount of salries for diffrent positions. Personally, I woud like to know the salary of an architect or urban planner and also for a head of planning unit in Qatar.

Thanking you in dvance.

Dalila

Dalila, it all depends on where these jobs are and the type of contract you have. Oil and gas companies pay higher than average and they dont usually distinguish between nationalities. However, the private sector does depend on nationality. To give you some idea of the possible range for an engineer let me cite an example. Civil engineer indian national working in private sector on a permenant type contract.... expect a salary not exceeding 6000-10000 QAR all inclusive. Civil engineer european national working on oil and gas project, fixed term contract (3-4 years)..... expect $500-$700 per day. So you can see there are alot of factors which contribute. Could you give more details then maybe myself or others could probably give a more accurate figure. eg... type of organisation, type of contract, your nationality, years of experience, any middle east experience etc etc. sorry if i confused u even more. Respect GIASI
Hi Dalila Did you mean that everyone could post here with hteir Job, nationality, years of experience and so on and then their salary in order to make a kind of database on Qatar salaries? I agree that such a thing could be useful when one needs to negotiate a contract. But I don't know if some "bad" consequenses also might come from it. I usually only tell my salary on request to my closest firends. Many times it causes more friction than benefit. I work as a contractor for QatarGas in the field of IT consulting. More specific, I work with a system called SAP and I do security and authorizations and segregation of duties. If someone is in a similar area they are welcome to contact me and we can continue the conversation in private.
My husband works here in Qatar and I am thinking about living here full time. Currently I just come for extended visits. I am a teacher and would like to know if there are many teaching jobs here. Also does anyone know what the salaries are like for tachers.
ЙŎńâmê well it depends on where you work, and the nature of the company you work for. well i am an assistant prsonnel manager and there is salaries range from 1000 to 50,000 and it really depends on the nationality, Europians and american first, then Lebanese in the second place, and then the rest of the nationalities, this is genrally speaking, and there are execptions of course
Dalila, this is what i think, ** You will be offered a base salary equal or equivalent to what you might have earned in your own country of origin ** The difference is supposed to be a tax advantage if you can sort out your fiscal status with your own country. All of the above comments are true, when it comes to different continents, nationalities and salaries. The bottom line is: your 'Gross Income' will be about the same as in your country of origin. If you are presently employed, and you will be paying taxes to your country of origin if you moved, then there is no point in moving to Doha. If you are unemployed and looking for a job and this is a good kick- start for you, then you have a point in coming to Doha. People have reasons other than money for moving to Doha. Younger people would look for an advancement in their careers, for a different challenge, etc. Baby-boomers, will look for end an of career adventure, the mega nature of projects, a place in the sun, a last hurra...? Moudir
Hi, this is for Barburro. Teachers earn around 400 - 500 QR per day on a casual basis (much less than casual rates at home for me), but the rate depends on the school you work for. A full time teacher starts on around 10,000+ QR per month (with 10 years teaching experience) with the wage increasing each year. I know a lot of teacher friends who are on 15- 16,000 per month plus benefits (they have been here a while!). Once again the amount depends on the school you work for. Some pay better than others. There is definitely the need for Western english speaking teachers here, and as you would be hired as local hire (no benefits) you would be an attractive canditate to most schools. I would just send my CV out to the schools or better still, visit the schools in person with your CV. I know many of the schools are recruiting now for next year. Good Luck! Mish
Mish Thank you for that information....Barburro
Can someone let me know what's the salary range for senior erp consultant or senior business analyst in Doha?
Ujang, It depends who you are working with. Qatar may be a small country but they don't have uniform (state) salary scales covering all industries and disciplines. As has been indicated on other threads on the site, the cash salary is only a portion of the deal. You must also consider such as medical care, housing, amount of annual leave, provision of social facilities and other benefits. You must consider the package as a whole.
Hi Thomas, I need to get more infor on your SAP work with QatarGas. Appreciate if you could give me your email address. I have specific questions pertaining to your ERP work.
Hi Dweller, If I got a IT job offer from government related company (senior position) in Doha how much should I expect for basic pay, housing allowance, transportation allowance, education benefits for the kids etc.
Hi I've been offered a job at the University, it seems quite a good package (16000 QR a month) plus a villa, healthcare, and a travel allowance. However we don't know if its enough money for us to come out and live comfortably until my husband finds work too. Also I don't drive and wondered what the cost of a local driver to get me, say to and from work, would be per month (I stayed in lebanon and Syria before and it was fairly cheap and more practical than taxis there)? Any suggestions would be very welcome, Thanks
Ujang, When you say Senior Position, there are at least 9 levels of "Senior Position" in such as QP. Housing Allowances in QP are established by reference to the job grade but will vary by company (outside QP). With rents increasing as they are doing, allowances really need to be reviewed on a regular basis. Transportation really needs to be enough for you to make the repayments on a car loan. Education allowance will probably depend on your nationality and the fees of your particular nationality school. Certainly in QP they will not pay for you to send your children to a European school if you are (say) Indian but will cover the bulk of the fees for your children attending an Indian school. Most of the schools in Qatar have web sites and will probably indicate school fees. Sorry I am unable to be more specific.
Hi Dweller, Thanks for the earlier infromation. I'm from S'pore. Do you know whether any S'pore school in Doha? I try to search in internet unfortunately I can't any. Since S'pore school follow UK system, can they allow my kids to attend UK school? Do you how much it will cost to rent a 3 bedroom apartment in Doha city center? Normally how much it will cost to buy a Japanese/Korean 4WD car + monthly installament? Is 1K sufficient to cover installament + petrol?
Ujang, I don'think that there is a Singaporean school in Qatar but am not sure. On the other issues I leave it to someone else to respond. Having spent 17 years (in total) in Qatar, I am no longer "in residence". I left in 2004 since when rents have increased dramatically. My daughter left last year after 23 years (having been raised there) and has confirmed that prices of everything are on the increase. Regarding the school, you can only try. Within QP each case was considered on it's own merits. I know that if no school of the employees nationality was available, employees were able to send their children to any school of their choice.
ЙŎńâmê 16000 QR is a good salary, actually its quaite good, and if there is a villa to live in, which means you have a house and everything, them you don't need much money even if you worked alone, without you r husband. qatar is not cheap but its affordable, and 16000 is really a good package, so don't hesitate to come.
Dewller QP is offering 14000 as base salary for Grade 15 and since I am married they add allowance of 16000. Allowenec include, housing, location, transport. Does it make sense? can you compare with other local QP salaries? Anayeb
Anayeb so you mean the total package is QAR30000? or your allowance is an extra QAR2000 on top of your base salary?
Moomim I guess the total is 30000 ( base14000+ allowance16000) = 30000 The definition of allowance they are giving is western primium, Accomodation, location and transport. I do not know if the transport means annual return ticket to canada or it is something else. Please help
OMG, that's amazing. Really, QAR30000 is too good to pass up. Take it! To put things in perspective, my allowance is a meagre QAR3500 to cover my housing and transport!
I'm gobsmacked! If that is the deal then things have definitely improved. When I left the housing allowance was QR 6,500 a month. The Western allowance maybe the Western Inducement Allowance (one of my legacies) has increased substantially if the total allowances are QR16,000. I assume that you will be working outside of Doha to receive the location allowance. One downside of the large allowance is that your end of service benefit (ESB) will be based on the basic salary. Alternatively the deal may include your ESB if you are on what they call a special contract.
Hi Mish, Your previous comment about teacher salaries ranging from 15,000 to 16,000 QR per month; is that on a 12 month per year basis ? or, is it for 'school months only', i.e. no pay for summer holiday months. could you clarify pls, thank you ! Moudir. psss- what about people who have Master's Degrees (M.A.in English + TESL), do you know of such cases in your entourage ? Thanx.
Thanks everyone for the comments. If it's any help Moudir I get 16K per month for the year plus transport/villa/health etc so it includes almost 4 months paid holidays (one of the main reasons we are relocating). I know that QU stipulate a PhD for their English Dept but I do have a former student who taught ESOL with an MA sometime ago and said she enjoyed it. If I can find her I'll ask her where if you like L
Yes Lachalla, please do. Thank you very much! My wife was interested in QU English teaching jobs and she has 2 M.A.s, and a lifetime experience in second language teaching. Only, she was not so sure about the e-learning requirement. Looking forward to hearing from you. Do you have a Ph.D yourself? Moudir
Hi Moudir, Yes I do. And I taught at a major UK Uni for 7 years. They seemed keen on publications too as I had to send them a list of books, articles etc. However that's all to work on faculty perhaps they have an EFL school where your wife's MAs and experience would be great. Don't know, I don't start till the summer. I've sent an e-mail to my former student - I supervised her MA a good few years ago, so don't know if she's still on the same address. I'll let you know if I hear back, L
Thanx Lachalla. Thank you indeed. I didn't want to challenge your decision for accepting 16K,cuz you seemed to be decided to go even if it's the only income of your family for now (excluding your hubby), but, with a PhD and everything, are you comfortable with the offering? Is that comparable to what you would have earned in the UK for gross income? May be it has to do with very low number of hours/week of teaching? How many hours per week would you eventually teach? Regards, M
ali ali
I get a phone from QP for intervieu; I don't now no thing about the process and about salary in QP for engineer in health and safty could some one help me by the maximum information according to QP recuirment thank you
Hi Moudir, Yes those teacher who are on 15-16,000 per month went in at the top of the salary scale at the school, which is 10 year experience- starting salary anywhere from 10,000-13,000 per month. They then worked their way up to 15 000 per month over the years they spent working at that particular school. They have been teaching in Doha at the same school for 6-8 years. So that is why their salary is so good. When I started, I went in on nearly 12,000 per month (no masters). They also receive more for their Masters or PhD, but once again this depends on the school. The school I was working at only brought that in a about 2 years ago. The salary amount is given every month including holidays. Most of the International schools have TESL attached to the school, as a lot of the students are Arabic. The school I worked at was nearly 90% ESL. A lot of the schools are happy to hire people without their degree in Education and without a teaching certification too. As long as someone has a degree and maybe some sort of teaching experience you can usually find a job in an International school. (So parents out there, be warned! :) ) Hope this is helpful. Mish
Thanx Mish for the clarifications. It seemed to me that 16K was not a lot of money for any Ph.D, but i didn't want to hurt Lachalla's feelings. Cuz in my book, if you're not doubling (x2) your home net income, there is no point in relocating? unless of course it's a second income (in the family) and you can compromise a bit on the allowances. I think my wife would like to aim at teaching older kids, pre-university, first year U or last year junior college (if there is such a thing over there), cuz that's where her experience has been in the last decade; teaching older kids how to write correctly.. teaching me was the hardest part of course, to bring up my English from the fourth language level, to the second language level.
Hi Moudir and Mish this is all helpful! Moudir, that's sweet, I really don't know if 16k is a lot or not. Point is we live in London. My salary is about the same but from that we have to pay a huge mortagage and very expensive living - going to Qatar means we can rent out the house (and make some money) and my husn=band can complete his accountancy thingy. On top of all that I like the Middle East (although haven't lived in Qatar before..) Our hope is that my husn=band finds some business work quickly=, we save a little, we spend our long holidays in Italy, and generally have a better quality of life. But, of course, we may be being idealistic... Is 16k a month plus all expenses really terrible? Is it very expensive there? Are we being naive? I've felt very reassured by all the other mails I've had...
Hi Lachalla, you seem to have a good plan, with summers spent in Europe? i would definitely go for it! although i don't know what you mean by accountancy thingy? :) Others on this site might tell you if it is possible to operate as an independent consultant or accountant, or you also need to have a sponsore to be in private business in Qatar. In the meantime, i invite you to read my Blog (My first encounter...) as a teacher grading an essay in creative writing (2nd language level of course). Everything i was told is true, all my replies were my thoughts at that moment combined with the fruits of my imagination. I'm aiming for a B+, but will i get it... Moudir
Hi guys, I am a new member here. Glad to know that there is a friendly Qatar forum here. I just need to ask how much is the salary range for IT people using MS SQL Server, VB6 / VB.NET and JAVA. I am asking this because I have already applied for a job there in Qatar. Of course, before I will sign the contract, I must know first the salary range there. Thank you very much.
Hi Lachalla I understand that you just received an offer fro QU. I just had an interview with them about 4 weeks ago. I have not received any offer. How long did it take for you to receive the offer after the interview? I am a tenured associate professorin engineering at a top tier Canadian University. I got my PhD in 1994 and have about 60 journal publications. What salary range should I expect? Thank you.
The ave salary for a PhD/EdD with 10 yrs experence is about 15,000QR mon + housing + travel + Insurance, etc. QU has had some faculty turn over problems for non-Qataris. Most expats seem to look for other opertunities once they get to QU. Better jobs are at the American Univ in Education City or CNA. To feel like you have a good deal, both people need to work, 15k/16k is not going to go far if you have to buy a car, food is expensive, living cost are not cheap because everything is going up on a monthly basis. Go in with both eyes open, Qatar is not cheap place to live. COst are comparable to USA or British Isles.
Hi Akal I got the offer a week after my interview - I got my PhD in 1992, have a tenured job, and have a fairly long list of pubs (including two books) but I am going to be teaching Linguistics so I don't know about Engineering. In the UK Engineering would generally attract a higher salary than Humanities. I've been offered 16k per month plus villa, travel allowance, insurance etc etc. The deal seems fine compared to here as teaching is less and holidays longer (and I can acquire some article work on the basis of being in the ME). Good luck, hope this helps Lachalla
Lachalla Thank you for the information. Did you receive the offer by email first then by post? Did the human resources department at the university or your department head contact you first? akal
To put Lachalla and Akal's mind at rest. We are not doubling our income from Aus and we are still better off here than Aus as we don't pay taxes. We can have a great standard of living (that we couldn't have in Aus) and enjoy a great family life. We live on 15,000 QR a month, once housing is taken out. I am not working at the moment, as I am enjoying being a stay at home mum to my first child. We have a very expensive full time maid that we hired before I became pregnant and have decided to keep her on- she is very good. She lives out and we sponser her, so she is more expensive than a live in maid. We also have 2 cars, one we are paying off. We do not save much each month, but we manage to pay our mortgage repayments in Australia plus extra, eat out when we choose to, and save a bit for holidays. We find Qatar's living expensives to be very good when comparing to Sydney Australia. Meat which is mainly from Aus or NZ is about the same price as home. Fruit and vegetables are more expensive, although there are many local products available that are excellent and cheaper than Aus (especially the yummy cucumbers). Disposable nappies are very cheap here and clothing prices are fantastic during the sales. It all depends on where you shop. If you go to the expat supermarkets and only buy the produce you are used too, it will be expensive. As you get to know Doha you will work out where to get the bargains. We also attend Music lessons, swimming lessons and playgroup each week. So, we are not staying at home to save money! We go out often and have fun. I think it all depends on where you are coming from. We lived in Germany before coming to Doha and find things are much cheaper here and the quality of food much better. I am sure you will find it much cheaper here than London! Hope this puts your mind at rest. Mish
Akal Firstly, Akal, I received an e-mail from the Head of Dept then HR e-mailed an offer letter which I had to reply to for confirmation. I then called and asked lots of practical questions (about my cat, learning Arabic etc) and they were very good and mailed a list of answers very quickly. I am now waiting for a letter they have said they will send after a little time with a list of required documentation etc. I have been told I would teach (at most) 12 hours a week and have up top 10 office hours (which can also be used for research). Perhaps you could send a mail to your H of D asking if they've made a decision? I would if I hadn't heard. Let me know how you go, and good luck!
Mish, Thank you so much. This was a great help. My husband is actually from NZ (much, much cheaper than London) and my best friend is in Berlin (again much, much cheaper than London) so I now have a great idea of costs. All we hope to save away is our mortagage payments as we will have a tenant in our house so it all looks good. In any case with a bit of luck my husband will find some work either before or once we're there ( he is going to finish his accountacy qualification too so if he doesn't so be it). Our only real expense will be buying a car (but my employer gives us an interest free loan for that) Thanks again, Lachalla
I'm new here and I found this website when I was searching for info on living in Qatar. I have received an offer from one of the company in Qatar. They are offering me QR28,000 month with some allowances. The housing allowance is in the range of QR6500 - QR8000 depending on my salary grade (which I'm not particularly sure what it is at the moment) and utilities allowance. I'll be on family status so I will be bringing my wife and kids as well (She will have to leave her SAP work). I know that the company will assist in my kids education but I'm not sure if they will fully support the tuition fees. I've been reading the forums and noticed that everyone is complaining about the rent here in Doha. Is QR8000 adequate? I'd appreciate some feedback as I have another competing offer from Saudi Aramco. Aramco gives better perks and their package seems more structured. I just feel that they will take care of everything. I'm not getting the same feeling with the Qatar company at the moment. What questions should I bombard the HR people? Sorry for asking so many questions :)
No way is 8k enough. If you have kids you will need a villa and you will not find one of those for less than 12k
Wow, 12K ... That means dipping into my base salary ... Will need to discuss further with the HR people.
Yeah Super7 is true about the rent for a villa (if you are looking to get a villa?) and if you want an apartment then it could be enough or little more than your budget. By the way, why did you choose this nick name (azraeil)??? Ayman
First off, what's the definition of a villa? I assume it's a bungalow as my countrymen here defines it? What comes with a villa anyway? For QR8000, will I be able to get at least a furnished 3 bedroom apartment in a nice neighbourhood, probably close to Qatar academy or Qatar International School? Ayman, the nick is a character from Batman (when Batman was incapacitated by Bane, Azrael replaced Bruce Wayne as Batman). It's close to the Islamic Malaikatul-Maut though :)
It's the Islamic Malaikatul-Maut (angel of death) and thats why I am surprized that someone use it. for WR8,000 you might get a 3BD FF apartment but could be little far from the area of those schools. Ayman
Villa is a house as opposed to a flat. Yes you probably could get a furnished 3 bed apartment near QA for 8k
Hi ThomasSoerensen I would like to discuss with you with regards to the IT consulting work in SAP area. Kindly write to me at bvv75@yahoo.com. Thanks. Best Regards
Thanks for all your feedback. A 3 BD FF apartment for QR8000 will be good. I've been told that the company is actually giving QR12000 for the housing allowance though it's not stated in the contract. This is supposedly temporary and this "extra" QR4000 allowance will be withdrawn once the rental market drops a bit. I need to confirm this with HR and if it's true, I wouldn't mind paying QR10000 for a fully furnished unit close to the schools I mentioned (QA, Qatar International School and The Cambridge School of Doha). Do you guys think that's achievable?
There are some villas on a compound near landmark which is near QA for 10,500 a month. Three bedrooms with swimming pool etc on compound. Call Emadi enterprises on +974 4666625
Super7, thanks for the info. Sounds good to me. This I assume is fully furnished?
Don't know. Call them
Thanks Super7, will do just that. Back to topic, I have received confirmation on my salary package, Base Salary - QR28K Housing Allowance - QR12K Transport Allowance - QR1K Medical is covered and International school for the kids is covered as well. So in total it's QR41K/month. I will be on family status with my wife and 2 kids. Will this be sufficient for living in Doha?
ha ha ha ha will it be sufficient. Yes it will. You are earning about 30 times more than many of the workers!! There is nothing else to spend your money on. House is covered, school is covered. Earning USD11,000 a month tax free. Enjoy
Really? I thought that due to the high living expenses in Doha (I mean the rental rates are insane ...) I would have figured that everyone is earning five figure income in Doha. My contract is for 3 years so the package is quite good. Have read through the package from Aramco, they offer similar package but on a permanent basis. Still deciding which one to choose from. My wife is particularly interested in the gated community system (If you can call Dhahran a "gated community"), so to satisfy her needs, are there any gated housing in Doha (I'm sure there is) and are they within the QR10-12K budget I'm getting?
Aramco, The gated community is literally "gated". Don't forget that yur wife cannot drive outside the gated compound in Saudi and the dress for women going outside is in black with head covered. I would never have accepted anything in Saudi, only on bachelor status. Even then I would have given it a lot of thought. Permanent in Saudi is also subject to nationalisation. When a Saudi can do the job.....bye bye expat!
dweller, thanks for the feedback :) Come to think of it, the 3 year contract is not bad, it does allow me some flexibility. If I don't like it in Doha (I doubt it), it's only 3 years and I just won't renew the contract :) Thinking of buying her a small car she can take around Doha, maybe a suzuki swift or something. My dream car is an XC90, though I've heard it's in the QR140K range for a full spec. Too expensive :( I have to make the decision on the two offers by the end of this week. Once I've made them, I'll call Ayman ... heh heh, he seems to know tons about accomodation in Doha.
May be Ayman or somebody else, could you please help me locate Education City in Doha, it is supposed to be on the outskirts of the City, but close to what municipality? or neighborhood? is it close to Qatar U, way up there near West Bay Lagoon? Thank you ! Moudir psss- it seems to common practice for companies and institutions to show a P.O.B. for address, but never a street name, a municipality or suburb name, etc. ?
I will be waiting your call :) But when you call me please don't tell me you are Azraeil, I will get a heart attack. lolz Ayman PS: for our western fellows, Azraeil is the angel of death.
Education City is a bit further west than Qatar Uni... and also slightly south, I believe... towards Al-Rayyan...? Actually, looking on Google Earth, I think it might even be that complex at about 25°18'14.00 N, 51°23'0.00 E.... and if not, it is very close to there, anyway. :)
Education city is in a place called or near by "El Luqta"...If your coming from the American embassy(the embassy being on your left)..you head for the fly-over ...don't go on it instead turn left right under it....Keep going straight ahead you'll find what they call the leaning /slanted (it's called mayel) roundabout...keep going straight ahead and you'll find Qatar Foundation & Education city on your left...............are u lost yet???!!! to recap: US embassy---left under bridge----straight ahead till u get there. .lili.
Thank you Loki and lili(by the way i'm not in Doha yet, you know that..!? :) i'm trying to decide where i should be living to be close to my work, and my wife close to her eventual work... or may be we should be living separately, each close to his/her respective work place... :):) TTFN, Moudir
Please help I would like to know if QP offers are fixed or negotiable. I got an offer and need to get back to them. I like to negotiate for at least 10% on the base salary. I am canadian and job is professional.
Try negotiating. It won't hurt. Is it a permanent or contract position?
Azraeil It is permamanet. the offer is 15000 base plus allowances. Since it is permanent I do not want to regret it a few years from now, knowing the inflation is high in Qatar.
That's not too bad. What grade are they offering you as this will determined your housing allowance. The only problem I see in Doha is the accomodation, what you don't want to happen is you having to dip into your base salary to top-up for your accomodation. QP's housing allowance I'm told ranges from QR9000 to QR12000 if you're on family status (it's half the amount if you're on single status). Try your luck and see if they are willing to nego on your base salary.
azraeil grade is 15, but I do not know what it means. the offer is family status
Loki & lili, Edu City is indeed in Al-Rayyan municipality and is located on Al-luqta street, which changes name from Khalifa street (near the water front). Thank you. Moudir

You should see someone about that stutter, Moudir.... :)
:) eye wwwill i donno what happened. I find this site so excrutiatingly SLOOOW !!! Is it the same for everyone else ?
anayeb, if you're on that grade, then the housing allowance is QR6500 with a supplementary allowance (due to the current high rental rates in Doha) of another QR2500 (so total of QR9000) which should get you a comfortable apartment (ask Ayman - he's the man with the magic crystal ball for accomodation in Doha :) ) That'll help you when you negotiate. I'd advise you to get their confirmation on the housing allowance (especially the supplementary amount).
Moudir, I definately agree with you that this site is far too slow. It's partly due to the forum architecture. If the administrator really wants to upgrade this site into a full fledged (awesome) forum; and believe me it does have that potential then the more techie people here should, together with the original maker of this site should set up a team......admin, moderator etc. The best (and I can vouch for it) forum software is vBulletin Version 3.5.3, powered by Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. If you want to see how large and complex a site can become, visit www.expat.ru It has become my number one source of information whilst in Moscow, and it is truly and awesome site. Food for thought admin???
Hi Azraeil, I have also been given a QP contract on the same grade as Anayeb. Mine however is a definite period contract and not permanent. As you correctly mentioned QR 6,500/- is quoted in the contract as housing allowance after probation. How do I get to know if a supplementary housing allowance is provided as nothing about it is mentioned in the contract? I have already got my entry visa. Any help you can provide is highly appreciated. Thanks. Regards
Bvv77 is Qp paying for transfer of you personal effects, if yes how much for a family of three? any conditions? How much do they pay for furniture and car loan?
Right on Moonbeam! i hope Admin reads these notes. i am not a software teachie, but sometimes i have to log-in 3 or 4 times in a span of 2 or 3 minutes, or everytime i change page! I am practically working on my laptop for my personal work, and on my desktop for QatarLiving to open up the next page! I think something has to be done soon. Please Admin! Moudir.
QP car loan up to 5 times basic salary. Furniture for my hubby's level 45.000 QR. That was over 4 yrs ago.
QP 4 yrs ago car loan up to 5 times salary, and 45000 for furniture allowance.
Hi Lachalla I have finally received an offer by email from QU today at 28K per month. Now we have to think about it. I also noticed that there was no car loan. Is this standard for QU? For some reason I thought that was part of the package! Akal
Hi all, i'm looking for salary info about Art Directors and Professional Photographers (with 5 to 7 years experience) working in advertising agencies in Qatar. Is 11K good for Art Director (house included) and 14.5K for Professional Photographer (house included)? taking into consideration that we'll have to leave our country and live in Qatar? Thanks in advance for your help :)
bvv75, I got some info from collegues who worked in QP about the supplementary housing allowance. I then confirmed it with QP HR. Yes, it's not in the contract so you'd better get some written answer on the supplementary allowance (mine was in an email). As for transfers, QP doesn't pay you much. They will give you a lump sump amount (which frankly is pretty darn pathethic) and that's about it. If you're on definite contract (most likely 3 years), then you get 30 days annual leave and 3x base pay for your car loan (the 5x base pay car loan is for indefinite employee). Furniture allowance is still 45000 so nothing's changed much since 4 years ago as mentioned by novita Aramco is offering me USD8,000 a month net, with USD21,000 signing-on bonus not to mention USD12,000 annual bonus. Housing is fully furnished for USD500 nominal rent with free utilities. It's an indefinite term as compared to QP's definite term. The money is just too good to pass up with Aramco. I'll be making my decision by the end of next week, the money pull is too strong.
Hi Everyone, I am scheduled ot move in to Doha on 01 May from Bombay India. My wife currently works as a branch manager for a leading bank here. We would like for her to continue working is as much similar level as possible. Jobs in banks seem to be awfully few in Doha and for sponsored candidates - only junior levels - is this right? Can some one advise if it would be better for her to travel with me and then look for a job or resign and take the plunge and then work it out?

Hi Akal, Congratulations, are you getting 28K plus somewhere to live? If so sounds great! Be careful I heard that sometimes they give an allowance instead of a villa/flat. Their HR web site says that staff can get an interest free car loan. Have a look. This week they sent me lots of paperwork - contracts, list of furniture, etc, all quite helpful, yours will probably arrive shortly. Lachalla
so noone can help me about Art directors and photographers salaries in an advertising agency?? just need to know if we are a couple getting 7000USD per month (3000 +4000) is it good? they are offering house too.
daizy. I think its not a bad deal if they are offering accommodation. Advertising is in its infancy here so its probably a good time to move here. Respect GIASI
Thx getinandstayin :) anyway we'll be going soon... hope it'll be a good move, knowing that Qatar is booming now... take care and have a nice day
Have accepted the offer from the Qatar company. I guess I'll be needing some assistance from our Mr Ayman :) for a lookout for places to stay in Doha.
Hi, I work for QP and have been reading the various posts and would like to contribute. 1. Housing allowanace is 6500 + 3400 for grade 15. Doesn't matter if it does not say so in your contract, you will get the 3400 QR supplimentary for sure. 2. Salary levels in QP are much lower than other multi-national cos like Exxon Mobile, Shell, Total etc. and even less than QP subsidiaries like RasGas and Qatar Gas. 3. Oil industry job market is so hot now, thanks to rising crude oil prices, that you can negotiate and get much hiigher salaries now. $1000 per day for a Drilling Engineer with about 10 years of experience is standard pay. So look around and shop around before you sign any long term contracts lest you regret. Qatash1.
KaZaNoVa Welll after reading wat all of u wrote, its true am new in doha but from my personal opinion i think Experience is more important that any certificate or any education specially in Doha take an my friend he started working as a driver fot he VIPs than he started working in exhibitions and now he is helding a gr8 position and he is studying with me Marketing i asked him about the reason he told me..... he need education near the experience he have so Conclusion Experience is much important than Education Best Regards, Kazanova
Hi all, I have just received an offer from a company in Qatar. I'm a Singaporean IT Professional with 5+ years experience working in an MNC. After reading all the great packages that you guys have been offered I am pretty "underwhelmed" by the offer I have received. It is a measly couple of hundred more then the annual package I received here in local dollar. Appreciate if anybody can enlightened me to what is a reasonable package. I am married with kid and will be relocating my family.
It depends on the level of experience and the industry you're in. It also depends on the skill set you have. If your skill sets are in demand and there are not many with the experience you have, then obviously you will be paid accordingly. I assume your package includes international school for your child and accomodation is covered? If it is then you have to consider that as well. I'm not sure how accomodation cost is in SIngapore, but I assume it takes a chunk out of your annual salary. The salary in Qatar is also tax free so that should be considered as well, take all that into account and consider the relocation hassle against it. It's a tough decision, and you can always negotiate for a higher package.
Azraeil, thanks for your reply. Sad to say accomodation is not covered as the housing allowance is only 3500 qrs. I currently own a 3 bedroom flat/apartment in Singapore and is paying of the loan of around 2300 qrs per month. I did negotiate for a higher package and they return with 16500 qrs (inclusive of all allowance). With the rental crisis in Doha now I think to stay in a 3 bedroom apartment will already set me back 5000-7000 qrs or more. Leaving me with around 10000 qrs per month. I earn around S$5500 per month here...which works out to be 12500 qrs. Some how I feel like I'm being taken for a ride...through the desert. =(
Hi everybody.I'm new to the site and was very happy to find this forum on salaries. My boyfriend has been offered a job in one of the Hotels in Doha, as an assistant Bar Manager. He is getting a package, but i'm not very happy with it. He will earn about 2000QAR per month, as well as accommodation and transport. After reading some of the other comments on the forum i'm beginning to think he isn't being offered enough. Is this normal for a hospitality job or should he expect more? His contract will be 2 years, and its not something we want to take lightly.Any info would be most grateful.

Hi everybody.I'm new to this site, so i was so glad to come across this forum bout salaries. My boyfreind has been offered a job in one of the Hotels in Doha,(I keep forgetting the name), as an assistant bar manager, with the chance of becoming Bar Manager. The package he has been offered is bout 2000QAR per month, plus accomodation & transport. After reading some of the comments on the site, i'm begining to think he is being offered enough. Is this normal for a hospitality job? Or should he be expecting more? Any info would be most grateful, as this is a 2 year contract, and he doesn't want to take it lightly. Cuz if it works out then i would try get a job next year and join him.
Surely you missed a zero off that figure. i think i spend that much a month on phone calls. It is a very low salary. Accommodation will most likely be in a shared apartment and transportation means to and from work only. Saying that though, if hes young and has no financial responsibilities, its possible to get by on 2000 but it wont be an extravagant lifestyle. If i was you, i would suggest you both look at Qatar Airways. They are always hiring cabin crew. Salaries are about 7000 per month (depending on how often u fly), you get accommodation, transport, get to fly all over the world and all the cheap tickets you can use. All that and you only work about 15 days a month Respect GIASI
GIASI, Pay in the hotels is extremely low and that figure doesn't seem that bad. When you think that there are people earning less than QR600 a month out of which they have to pay for the cleaning of their work clothes. Depending on where the guy comes from, the amount that he can save may be a small fortune
I have been offered a job as a shift supervisor w/ RasGas. Is 19000QR enough to live comfortably? I will recieve free housing in Al Khor and furniture allow, etc. I am wondering what the cost of living such as groceries, gasoline etc. is like. Is travelling out of Qatar expensive? Trying to make a decision. thanks
Hi.Thanks for the comments. He's a South African currently living in New Zealand. Personally i think he could probably earn more if he stayed in his current job, but he wants to get out and do something diffrent while he's still young. He got this job through a friend. Personally i think he's being taken for a ride. And from the comments bout salaries i've seen on this site i'm really begining to believe it. I can understand hotel salaries can be low, but isn't that just a little too low. I mean he will be an assistant bar manager with a chance of becoming bar manager within 6 months. Even then they said they will offer him about 5500QR. Should he be expecting more? GIASI thought i'd missed a zero on that figure. I just dont want him to take the job then spend the next 2 years suffering.
I think he shouldn't come unless he will earn quite a bit more than his current position, but that's just my opinion.
If it offers him the chance to increase his experience and thus makes him more marketable, maybe it would be worth it. If not, then personally, I wouldn't bother.
hello guys, I'm a fresh graduate (no experience) and been accepted in alfardan group, bmw in sales dept. The salary will be around 4500 QR and i will be given accomodation and comapny car. Is this a good offer? thanks.

Ouch! Your handle sounds like the offer!
Lozzy, if you need further advice, feel free to email me: isa3el@hotamil.com
Sicko: For a fresh graduate with arab (non-GCC) nationality, that offer is as good as you can expect. Lozzy: I made my comments based on the info on your profile. A young south african would become very dejected very quickly when he finds out how much people coming into his bar were earning. Respect GIASI
GIASI im actually lebanese.. not african salary is 4000 QR + commission on sales comprehensive med insuarance, comapny car, and housing.

I think that mite be a better idea, ass i'm not sure i could get a job in Law in Qatar,(not qualified yet) and according to Dweller hotels dont pay very well.Would i get any info career opps on the Qatar Airways Website? Thanks for all your help.

Lozzy: thanks for clarifying my post :) Anyway, about Qatar Airways. Hotel Management is a good background to have because airlines are hospitality industries essentially. i do know that people with your background do get into airlines. For cabin crew, they usually have an age range (like 21-30), minimum height requirements and english language ability. You are advantaged if you have previous airline experience, know other languages and are above average appearance (though i question that with some QA cabin crew :) ). Nonetheless, they do train you for about a month and test you before they finally let you loose on an aircraft. The website has a careers section http://www.qatarairways.com/?jobsearch&section=cabincrew in fact, you just missed interviews they were holding in capetown on 30th march. Contact them, they may be doing more there in future. else come here an apply in person. Respect GIASI
Kindly write about: 1. How is it working in the Oil refinery of QP? 2. What kind of Housing expenses are involved? 3. What kind of living expenses are involved? 4. How is the education facility for Indian kids? Thanks in advance Deepak
From Grade 13 to 16: Housing Allowance is the same...around QR 6500 + Around 3000 Allowances (this changes on grade and position) Grade 15: Senior Grade : 13 is the lowest and 16 Highest... Basic Salaries: 13K to 18K depends on experience, Skill and negotiations..This can be higher for Specialist Positions... Schools: All Schools in Doha..Good Schools , Delhi Public School(MIS), Birla Public School and Doha Modern Indian School
tg1234 What is the salary bracket for grade 15 in QP? I will receive their offer in 2-3 days, would like to know if I can negotiate with them. Thanks
I have no comments on Negotiations...One can try his/her luck..What I know things are pretty inflexible..and negotiations will only delay the process.. But I am not an expert in it... I have clearly mentioned the salary range above...in my previous post..
Hi everybody, I am going to join Qatar soon,as I get the job of rover operator (Qatargas). My starting basic salary will be 4800 QR + 2000 QR for allowances, housing provided at Alkhor.Do you think it is a decent salary? Thank you
I guess thats a good salary for the position..Housing at AlKhor is great..In case you like a peaceful and tranquil life..
Negotiations probably won't give much joy. QP take great care in attempting to establish salary equity taking into account qualifications, experience and one other element using a regression analysis equation that is regularly checked and amended.
Please, please help Sorry for posting this question here, I already posted it somewhere else nobody replied.... How long does it take to get work visa fram the date you sign and send the offer let's say to QP? poeple have already indicated to me from two weeks to two months. It makes planning very difficult knowing that the visa may be refused and you do not want to resign from you current position until you have the visa in your hand, anyone has a better idea any recent experience? More info:The position is grade 15 interview and medical all done in Qatar two weeks ago an d offer is on its way. Thanks
@Steamy The method of Appointment at QP is different from what you are used to until now..An offer letter is NOT an invitation to Qatar. An offer letter is a document which you first accept or reject. Once you accept then it is signed by the higher management or your department.Signing is not a formal activity. It can also be rejected at this stage. PLEASE DO NOT RESIGN UNTIL QP ASKS YOU TO DO THAT...ITS BETTER TO SEE THE VISA IN YOUR INBOX BEFORE RESIGNING... YOUR OFFER LETTER IS NOT YOUR SIGNAL TO PLAN MOVING...
I agree, don't to anything relative to resigning until you have the formal letter from QP. Things don't work in the way to which you are accustomed.
Hi there. Me again. My boyfriend has read all your comments and despite all this he still wants to negotiate. So i need some advice. He is 23, South African living in New Zealand but also has a British passport.Has been working in the best catering company in New Zealand as a bar manager and then Event co-ordinator for the last 4 years. He has been offered assistant bar manager in a hotel, with the chance of becoming bar manager in 6 months. His package is 2000QAR with accom and transport. I need advice on what sort of salary package he should be expecting as bar assistant and manager. Any advise will be greatful. Its a 2 year contract and its not something i dont want to take lightly. Thanks in advance!!!!
It's me again, I signed an offer letter with QatarGas mentioning a monthly salary of 4800 qar, does it mean I can't re-negotiate after? If someone does work for QG,could you please tell how it will be? many thanks
Hi, Thanks for all the information in this area. I have an offer for a Grade-3 Senior Staff position in RasGas based in Doha. As per their handbook Senior Staff Grades are from 8 to 1 and then U where 1 is the highest in Grades and then U for Senior Executives. Would someone have answers to my following queries? 1. How is their housing in Doha? They promised house during the interview and the personnel handbook says that the allowance is QR 8500 per month in case a house is not provided. Do they generally give house for Doha based employees? Is there a shortage of housing in their compound? 2. What is the normal basic pay for Grade-3 ? There is a lot of info. on QP structure but I don't find any on RasGas. I appreciate some feed back. Many thanks, IITian
Hi everybody, I am still looking for information on working for Qatargas,so what about salary negotiation, testing period,training,promotions,...I need advice on everything,as this will be my first move abroad. Thanks in advance
@dawest... I guess you wont get an answer from anyone..Once you have signed a figure How do u expect to negotiate??? From what you have explained on your position..offer seems fine..Alkhor has good housing...join and enjoy...

Lozzy The salary that you have mentioned is too Low. That much money your b/f will have to spend on his weekend binges (Even if he is a bar manager)..Just try and convert that amount to Dollars or Pounds and check a comparision of salary here and in UK ( Mulitiply the UK salary by 1.3, taxes)..If its the same or more ..welcome to Doha..If its less then if he is unemployed then its ok...otherwise..you know the answer...Is it really just 2000 QR??
Yip its only 2000 QR.I was shocked myself when he told me what they offered. Now he thinks if he negotiates he could get a better offer. So i was hoping someone could tell me what he should be expecting so that he is able to negotiate. Is it normal to negotiate?
IITian, sounds like the old QP scales. They went from 6 (lowest) to 1 (highest) although there was a grade "GT" (Graduate Trainee for national staff on development). The "U" (Unclassified was for Senior Management). I thought all of QP had moved onto a common grading scheme. Sound also as if the handbook needs updating. I don't think they will provide housing. Read all the moans about housing and rents in the forum.
Hi Dweller, Thanks for the reply. I think it would be better to check out with RasGas directly about the housing availability (though they said they will provide). Regards, IITian

In the whole gulf area there is no specific salary scale. i worked in 2 GCC countries before i join qatar -just 10 days before- and it depends on the needs of the company for certain post, Size of the company, and type of industry. For me as financial guy i always state my package in reference to UK and US treasury function salaries without deducting tax. "Never doubt that a small group of committed ppl can change the world" Not my words :)
Dear everybody, I'm new in this community, and wishing that someone here can help me. I've been offered a position in a company located in mesaieed for ERP specialist (for those who are unfamiliar with ERP, it's IT related thing..to be simple :), senior position. The package offered by the company : Basic Sal QR 10,000 /mo Housing allw QR 3,500 /mo (or as option, housing accomodation can be provided) Car loan asst QR 45,000 Furnitor allw QR 45,000 Children tuition asst Transport allw QR 800 /mo Insurance, etc 1. Can anyone here advise me for this salary rate, will it be safe for me to bring my family (wife and a child, 4 years old) 2. For anyone here in the area of IT, specifically ERP, would that be an appropriate level of salary in Qatar for this position 3. Which are the most common for people who are working in mesaieed, to live in mesaieed or in doha instead (and commute) 4. How is the facilities in mesaieed, and can someone give a comparison of living cost between mesaieed and doha Thanks alot. Peace, setyo
setyo, honestly what you need to do is look at what you are making where you currently are, look at your expenses and etc.. The housing allow is low and who knows what they would put you in if you came...I'd check on that. Are you bringing family? There are a lot of questions to consider. If you are making near the amount where you currently are, then it would probably not be worth the trip, but if it is a significant increase the you should jump on it.
tg tg
Just look for Dilshad in these pages...A lady with ERP background offered 15,000 as basic...Hint: your basic and HRA is low...
scmasse, tg, thanks alot. I'll take that into considerations.. (it seems I need to find out more detail about my package though... :(
Hi folks, I got an offer from QP as grade 14 with 11500 QR monthly basic salary plus western enducement of 760 CAD/mo + 540 QR/mo + accomodation (6500 + 3200 QR/mo) + 1K QR/mo transp. + 1k QR/mo for work location. I am canadian, civil eng. + Msc + Ph.D + 2.5 years of relevant exp. Do you think the offer is acceptable? is it possible to negociate with QP after signing (got other competing offer in saudi arabia)? thanks
Smilodon, Don't even consider trying to reconsider re-negotiation. If you have signed the deal, that's what you have. There IS a mechanism for adjusting salaries within QP but leave it a couple of years first. Saudi would have to me much a better offer for you to consider it.
Thanks Dweller for the tip! Does the package sound fair to you taking into account the relatively short relevant experience (
As QP goes, the offer isn't bad. Will you also receive WIA (Western Inducement Allowance)? I am not sure if it has been incorporated into the base pay or not. I hope that it's still effective as it's one of my few remaining legacies in QP :) Going blind, I see that you are receiving the WIA
Hi folks, This forum is so quite! I have several misc questions and your input would be very helpful: Is it worth shipping my car and other stuff (furniture, bikes, computer, ..etc) from Canada to Doha? How about other electronics DVD, VHS, etc will we be able to operate them @ 220volts using power converters? how expensive are these stuff in Doha? I am coming with a family visa, will my wife be eligible to work in Qatar? About housing, can I find a descent 2 bedroom in Al-Khor for 6500 QR/mo including hydro/electricity ? Those who are living in Doha/Al-khor, what budget should one forecast for living cost (grocery) for a family (wife and 2 kids 1 and 3)? peace,
If you think this is quiet wait till Sandie gets here. Don't ship your car from Canada. Allegedly cars sold in the Gulf have been tropicalized, to use BMW techno-speak. By all means get your computer, DVDs, etc. However you should be aware that broadcasts in Canada are in NTSC while most of the Gulf and Europe are PAL. Therefore unless you have a multi-system TV and DVD player you will not be able to watch things. Also consider that any DVDs you buy here might not run on your equipment. Also be aware that your DVDs and possibly books might go and pay a visit to the censors here before you can take possession of them. Shipping your household equipment and furniture really depends on what sort of a contract you're on. Some companies provide employees with a housing grant right at the beginning of the contract with which to furnish the house. Consider the cost of shipping your stuff against any allowance you are eligible for. Hopefully you can get an answer regarding the Al Khor housing from someone else here but I think the amount you mention is "doable". I don't understand what you mean by coming on a family visa. If you mean you will come on a work visa that allows you to bring your family along with you then you will be your wife's sponsor and, yes, she can take up employment as a teacher, secretary, whatever. For groceries check this post: http://www.qatarliving.com/node/889 Finally, in my experience comparing Nikon and Sony products on Amazon and at the local showrooms here the prices are comparable when you figure in the obligatory discount. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Don't believe everything you hear. They're jealous.
i have a friend who has an offer from qp as field operator in terminal operations of about QR4000 (grade5) basic salary plus allowances with a total of about QR7k. the offer is a family status. is the offer fair considering he has more than ten years of experience in oil industry? do you think he could survive there with his family with three young children? thanks, appreciate all your comments!
Elaine, it depends, if that is the grade and so the salary reflects that grade. If their spouse will work as well and accommodation is covered, it may be ok, else it is very hard. The major problem is housing in qatar
Dear all I have received an offer from nav. company as followes: 8000 Qr basic 8000 Accomodation allowence 1000 Trans allowence with the total of 17000 Qr IS that a good offer for Internla Audit Supervisor With CIA and CFE Certificates?
Dear all, It is really great to find out all the person I need here. I am new here and will be appreciated if anyone help me with belows. Could you help me to justify the offer I got from QP as a an engineer (grade 16). It is confusing to me that : They offer family status, Hosing assistance, education assistance, long term contract, medical and dental care, generous annual leave and recreation facilities. In summary, the package offers an approximate monthly basic salary of QR. 20,000/- for my single status. Does this number include the allowances for housing...already? What does it mean "assistance" in this case? We will clarify this issues during the next upcoming meeting with QP. So it will be advatageous to get information from you all before that. Many thanks.

Contact me with the following Info: Years of Experience... Basic Degree.. Basic Figure mentioned in the offer Operations or Engineering?? I can advise you if its right or not..Negotiations wont give much cheer... continuing_infoway@yahoo.com
hello there Mish, would you mind telling me more about the requirement of teaching in Qatar,i'm a TESL graduate and i have been teaching for more than two years now. what i'm looking for is the experience of teaching abroad, so the salary is my secondary goal because i realize i could not be demanding due to my teaching experience, would you mind telling me which school is hiring at the moment and with my experience, how much would i be getting.thank you
If the letter says "basic salary" then that is the "basic" salary. There are then allowances for housing, transport and your childrens education. In addition there is a furnishing grant that depreciates over 4 years (at the end of the 4 years it's yours). I am not sure if they still pay a furniture maintenance allowance after the four years, maybe someone else can advise you of that. You will also be entitled to a car loan, again I am not sure of the exact calculation. There are location allowances and offshore allowances if you are offshore overnight. I am sure that if you contact QP, they will advise you of the exact amount of the allowances to which you are entitled.
Thanks so much Dweller for your information. So I can understand that "basic salary" in this case is the number excluding the housing, tranportation, education..., is that right? For a single man (no very special needs, no wife, children...), how much will be the range for the cost of living in Qatar to be a decent life (roughly)? I know this is a quite general question to be answered specifically. However this will give me a better overview for the decision. Many thanks again.
Hi. After reading everything that everyone has to say about their respective fields and salary ranges, I began to wonder if the offer made to me is fair. I was offered QR3000 to start with, but I'm given free accommodations and free meals on days that I'm on duty, I'm a training coordinator for a 5-star hotel in doha. I'm a Filipina, and this is my first time to be out of my country. Considering that I have less than a year of experience in training, and none in the hotel field as I was a trainer for an insurance company in the Ahilippines, do you think my offer was fair?
This is a relatively low salary, however it's not abnormal for people in your position. Free accommodation is very important and if you'll be sharing then you can cut on your other costs. Just make sure your employer will cover electricity and water costs. All in all it's OK. Good luck.
Angel face, This is not a bad offer for someone with no experience in the field and with no overseas experience. As long as your accommodation and utilities (and most of the food as well) are taken care of I would assume you could save up to QR1500-2000 a month if you're careful. If this is fine with you - then go for it. Overseas experience is great, and if you do well - your value as an employee (and of course your salary) will increase. Does the company cover all the relocation costs? Do they offer any kind of medical insurance? Do you get at least one day off a week and a return ticket a year (or two years, depending on the contract)? If the answer is yes to all of these - your offer is not bad at all.
Dear all, I own my own busnisses and im thinking of moving to Doha,Qatar. I had a beauty supply and worked in import and export for a while. Now i own a bakery catering and fast food business. What do you advice me to open in Qatar? What is most demanded because i have experience in all of these fields.
Dear all, I own my own busnisses for the past 25years. and im thinking of moving to Doha,Qatar. I had a beauty supply and worked in import and export. Now i own a bakery catering and fast food business. What do you advice me to open in Qatar? What is most demanded because i have experience in all of these fields. Or i am looking for a job to manage such businesses if you know any.
You are correct, the "basic" salary is that before any of the allowances are added. It is the salary upon which your ESB (End of Service Benefit) is calculated and is guaranteed. Allowances by their nature can be removed, reduced or increased outside of basic pay changes. I do not wish to cause you concern and I have only seen allowances reduced in very rare circumstances. Not having been resident in Doha for a since 2004, I am unable to comment on living costs although from comments on the forum, they appear to be increasing, particularly in respect to housing.
hey, u just got off from the plane ah? not many singaporean here al......so no singapore school here, not like suzhou. but planty british school here, but damn ex leh 3R flat, sgp can get a HDB easily S$1000, here !!! see where lor, QAR 6-10K.....= SGD 3.5-4.5K, doha not a cheap place to stay. brand new sorento.....1k + abit can get la, petrol is damn cheap compare to the shell pump at jurong. nothing la. only accommodation, the price here, can get a condo in Holland area............welcome to qatar.
u from singapore, get a BMW here la, so cheap.
might sound cool to have a bmw but if you do not want to mess it up get a 4x4
I'm a Canadian national and I'm wondering if a salary of QR 11,000, plus allowances for housing of 4,000 and transportation of 1000, etc is sufficient. I have an MBA and 5 years' work experience in Canada. Is this offer fair and worthwhile? Please advise!
tg tg
Its on the lower side...Specially the housing allowance is pathetic...If you are a single..you could probably manage...but with your background...you should negotiate higher...
I think it's ok as a starting salary. The housing allowance will get you an apartment on a lower scale. If you are single, this should be no problem. Only 5 years experience is not much, even with MBA (and it also depends what sphere your experience is in).
Thanks folks. I am single, and 30, and I believe that it's a very low offer. I should probably ask for housing as well in addition to my basic salary. They may be "low-balling" me.
Dear dawestside, i also going to join qatargas as Rover Operator . my starting base salary is 4500 + Etc..so if normal working will get 7000 Riyals. i dont know it is decent salary or not but for me it is good opportunity to spend money. my friend at qatar gas say to me there's a lot overtime in qatargas..every month he got 11000 riyals untill 12000 riyals permonth...cost living only 2000 riyals... our working schedule is 4 days on 4 days off, beside that we will get overtime... so, dawest side..it is still enough the my info..
Relocation costs are taken cared of by the company as well as meals on duty days. The hotel has a staff housing complex so accommodation is free, I'm not so sure of the utilities though. I get a return ticket every two years, and the contract is unlimited, meaning I don't have to renew every so often, as long as I don't resign or get terminated, I can continue working.
OOOps! misunderstood the original comments
Hi folks! I am planning to join QP in September and was wondering if it would be possible for me to go back home (leave Qatar) for a visit at the end of the month of Ramadhan. How many days does QP offer for such religious events (Eid)? can I exit the country after a month and half of starting the job? would that time be enough for finishing all residence papers and stuff? thx-smilodon
hi, everybody. i am new on this forum. i have a job offer in doha, and i would like to know how is life in doha. how expensive is an apartment to rent, electricty and petrol prices, things like that. i would like to have also info about salaries, health system, something from your own experience. i am thanking you for all the information i will receive from you. actually, i am really interested to move from romania to qatar, but i have no idea about living day by day there. thanks.
in qatar everything became so so expensive during the last four years . if i were u i would rather look for job in abu dhabi . we stay here only for some personal reasons . we would have left if we could .
tee hee..the situation in abu dhabi is much MUCH worse, trust me :)

Smilodon, Sorry to disappoint you..but I dont think you can make it for the holidays back home..First during Ramadan things slow down anyways and 1.5 months is anyway on the optimistic side...The EID Holidays start from 20th October and Until you have arrived on 1st September and are regularly reminding responsible guys of your "desire"..the chances are remote...Your residence permit will not be ready.. QP will have holidays of around 6 days(inclusive of 2 weekend days)..and You will surprized how difficult it is to find flights during those days...
dear ujang, so u still have not been in Doha before, kid study information is not available as i have not bring my kid here, but to own a jap/kor 4WD car is around 2500 riyal per month petrol+installament. Do u know the petrol here is cheaper than drinking water.
tg, does that apply also to my wife and kids? they are mobilizing with me but plan to leave Qatar to go back home a.s.a.p after arriving to Doha. Ouuh, by the way, is any one aware of any decent apartments (2-3 bdrms) or compounds in Al-Khor or in the northern suburb of Dawhah for a budget of about QR6500/mo?
tg tg
The procedure to get your wife and kids Resident Permit can go side by side as yours but they will get RP only TWO WEEKS after you receive your RP..the better way would be to call them when your RP is close to be stamped..so that they can leave Doha in 20 Days..(Edited from Earlier One month)... Are you sure you wish to stay in Al-Khor?? QP does not have housing in Khor and its not a place with family to live..Most of the Ras Laffan guys stay in Doha...
I am not sure I get it..we already applied for visa for all of us since we wanted to mobilize together to qatar but we are still in Canada. could you kindly explain more tg? thx
tg tg
I will start by saying its not a shame that it takes 6 weeks..this is exactly the same amount of time it takes in supposedly more advanced UAE...and its an initial process which accords you a 3 year resident permit akin to green card (Not in every sense) with multiple entry and exits. It eliminates the need for any further paperwork for the next three years for you and family...The Visa that you have is a typical entry visa for arrival in any country.... Within a Week of your arrival you would be taken for Qatar Medical Commission medical process where you will undergo blood tests for HIV,HEP B and C and X-ray for traces of TB if any...4 days later to that you go for fingerprinting...It takes around 10 days to check all available finger prints with Qatar authorities to accord you 3 year resident permit... Your family can undergo medical and finger prints parellel to your procedure..but their request for resident permit can only be submitted once you have been accorded resident status....Now..here you are lucky..because QP arranges a business visit visa for your family to fly in with you..(A facility not easily available to many private company employees..)...Since QP brings in your family on their Visa it takes around 15 days after your resident status to get your family accorded resident visa under YOUR sponsorship... While I am not great fan of this time taking process if things are seen in perspective..and if and when you visit the immigration department and see the pressure on them due to the current work load of Asian Games and ongoing massive construction activity..you will be more amiable to the way things are... Phew!! keep this thread..it is difficult to type it always..
do I understand from this that my family would be allowed to leave Qatar between the day of their arrival to qatar and the day they apply for their RP ?
Don Don
A recommendation I had from QP is to come over without the family first and bring them over after 90 days or so. My family will probably come over at the school break.
