Whenever I post in QL, my most useful and enjoyed posts have been those about practical tips/info -- not socializing or commenting about others. I get myself in trouble whenever I do the latter. I'll stick with info posts (like the past post). I'm glad that you enjoyed this sightseeing list. My parents are getting on in age so we're not seeing many of these things on the list. If interested, a big camel race on Sun @ 1pm at the Camel Race Course. A lot of the Royal Family will be there (in the stands) so I don't know where average people can stand to watch the race. We went there yesterday but the camels were just practicing. To get to the race track, turn right at next R/A after Rayyan Stadium R/A. Then turn left at the next R/A and you should see overhead signs. After turning left, If you continue along this road, you'll see the Moh al-Dosari farm on your left side. During Eid, it has some fun kid stuff (pony rides, etc.)

baedaebok...lol...you are funny...but it is true what you say about yourself...it's not everyone who can poke fun at himself though. Well done :) [img_assist|nid=57389|title=|desc=peace|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0] _______________________________________________________ Love is the answer...

The main attracion you missed to point out is Mesaieed Sand Dunes. Nothing comparable to it if you experience it once with beach buggie, 4 wheel drive and campfire.

My parents are also getting on in age. My father is 70 and my mother is age undisclosed. They spent a week here last March 2007.   One day we went on a desert safari with a Qatari driver called Ibrahim. He did some crazy dune bashing and we had a picnic at the Inland Sea. My mother absolutely loved it and still talks about it a year later.   We also went to the Cutural village on the Corniche as it was open for Qatari culture week. Again, my mother loved it. She wore an Abbaya and burka and bonded very well with local women.   I gues it is all about attitude. Good luck with your folks. Although I love mine dearly a week was lond enough for the visit.   Don't ket age be a barrier to having a good time.    Fairy tales don't tell children dragons exist. Children know dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children dragons can be killed. G.K Chesterton

I want to ask anyone of you if you know when is mother's Day????

PUSA

The rock

Hi,   Does anyone know what's happening today? Any place or event happening today that should not be missed? Some camel race (never seen one) or a horse race (love those)... or anything else.   I'm not working on Sats from now and am bored :(    ------------------------------------------ Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur.

Good Collection of places to visit u forgot Dukhan there are some good beaches here & nice long Drive .....

anonymous

The places to visit & things to do is dwindling due to the weather. I haven't heard of any community events recently. Has anyone else heard of any community events in Doha? The last community event was Dunestock and Wheels 'n' Heels. I don't count sports events since I don't like sports. I'm winding down my stay in Doha as I'm leaving in a few months. So, I'm kinda out of the loop.

free_spirit005

joi

Smooth_Gal

Thanks for the info .... This would help a lot while i'm there... Thanks and hope ure parents enjoyed their trip

anonymous

There is nothing to do in qatar :-) The weather sucks plus only thing you can do is go to a mall. Which are not awesome there are better malls in other countries now so thats out of window also. Plus the other things in the list are pretty boring things but kudos for comiling them anyway. And most of the time the attitude of people are not so much ok expect the expats. Good luck!

baldrick2dogs

WTF!!! baedaebok comes out with a useful post and you put it down. Get a life man! Anyways, I like this list too : http://www.heritageofqatar.org/list.htm And now the weather is getting better will try to enjoy them also - maybe take a phot shoot out to a few of them (with a Killkenny picnic!) Did you Google it first?

krishnadas

Dukhan -v good place,Heart of qatar revenue. Oil & gas field. one TV studio also in zekreet (inside the desert)

anonymous

krishnadas, "TV Studio" is a bit overemphasized. It's a small "village" built in the old Qatari style for a TV production. There is a guy waiting for you with a tea, however, and some ostriches.

AbuAmerican

Nice list, thanks. ______________________________________________ Brazilian Jujitsu in Qatar http://iloveqatar.net/bjj/

have you gone to Sheik Faisal's museum yet. its amazing... Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Scarlett

Last time I was out there, it was a private tour and they were in the process of building another building to house the cars. I loved seeing the suits of chain mail and some of the weaponry..amazing the ways in which human could think to hurt each other.. Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.

anonymous

He also has some ancient Egyptian stuff in his "house" in Gharaffa. I used to tutor two of his sons in 1997 or so.

virkie

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your list of great things to do, my family are coming into town, and you have saved me time on research etc. I appreciate people who share information!

larissa99

guddoo333

ashok HI ALL CAN U PEOPLE CAN TELL ME WHY LIFE IS SO DULL IN OMAN WHEN IT COMPARES TO OMAN

Joseph86

LIFE IS ONLY AS DULL AS YOU WANT TO MAKE IT. WHAT EVER YOU WANT, YOU CAN HAVE. IF YOU WANT A DULL EXPERIENCE, YOU WILL PULL ONE IN, IF YOU WANT AN EXCITING ONE, YOU CAN PULL THAT ONE IN TOO. SO, DON'T WORRY ABOUT DULL. MAKE YOURE LIFE AS EXCITING AS YOU WANT. ONLY YOU CAN DO THAT. GO OUT. LOOK AROUND. SHAKE A FEW HANDS, TALK TO SOME PEOPLE. DON'T ISOLATE YOURSELF. THIS IS THE WORST THING THAT YOU CAN DO. HAVE FUN. ENJOY. DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK. DON'T LIVE YOUR LIFE WITHOUT TAKING RISKS. ITS ALL THERE FOR YOU. MAKE IT HAPPEN. YOU CAN DO THIS.

baldrick2dogs

You can do everything here that you used to do in Oman except climb a mountain. Stop bitching and start doing! Did you Google it first?

vinodnair01

CONTACT FLACON TRAVELS IN AL SAD , THEY ARE OPPOSITE HARDEES , THEY ARRANGE DESERT SAFARIS AND OTHER SIGHT SEEING TRIPS

deedee

I suggest that everyone in Qatar interested in sightseeing buy a MARHABA book available at Carrefour, megamart, Jarir bookstore and many other shopping places. It includes a complete guide to sightseeing along with phone numbers to call, Maps and even GPS coordinates of many of the interesting places in Qatar. It also has a list of tour operators with phone numbers. It's a must have not just for this, but for the school section, the dining out section, etc etc. It's worth more than the 20QR that you have to pay to buy it. One more thing; It has a fabulous map of Doha that shows where all the important sights are located.

shaimaa

I know of some Non-Muslims who wished to visit Mosques, to Know about Islam & inquire about what is talked about in the Media about the Muslims. Well, Fanar; the building in the souqs with a spiral Minaret, can be spotted from any where on the corniche,is the place where they provide services related to Islam.
