KBS irked with land acquisition for power projects in Konkan

PUNE: Sulbha Brahme, senior social activist on Friday criticised the Union and state governments for ignoring the villagers' welfare by pushing
the atomic and thermal power projects in Konkan. Addressing a press conferene here, Brahme maintained that the Konkan Bachao Samiti (KBS) is going to continue with its agitation against the state government's land acquisition.

Reviving the World's oldest university!

Recently the Bihar government presented a Bill for the revival of Nalanda International University at Nalanda, Bihar. It's a commendable step and we should laud the government with a thumping desk to start the process of the revival of this International University which was known as the ancient seat of learning from 427CE till 1197CE. This university in it's heyday attracted 10,000 students and 2,000 scholars from Korea, Japan, China, Tibet, Indonesia, Persia and Turkey, besides being a pedestal of higher education in India,it produced great scientists in the past, Aryabhatt(a great Mallu scientist of ancient India)was one of them who came to Bihar at the age of 13 and become Vice chancellor of the University.

Ragged to death:

Dharamsala: Four medical students accused of ragging a junior leading to his death were arrested and charged with culpable homicide as the Himachal Pradesh Government on Tuesday ordered a magisterial probe into the shocking incident.

The four were remanded to police custody for varying periods by a local court in connection with the death of 19-year-old Aman Kachroo, a student of Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda.

Aman, an alumnus of DPS International, Delhi and a resident of Gurgaon, had died on Sunday night in a hospital in Tanda due to severe injuries. His family alleged that he was slapped, punched and kicked many times on the head and chest by his seniors who also shaved off his head.

Students to be taught there's no God

AAP December 14, 2008: VICTORIAN state primary school students will soon be able to take religious education classes which teach there is no evidence God exists.

The Humanist Society of Victoria has developed a curriculum for primary pupils that the state government accreditation body says it intends to approve, The Sunday Age newspaper reported.

Accredited volunteers will be able to teach their philosophy in the class time allotted for religious instruction, the newspaper said.

As with lessons delivered by faith groups, parents will be able to request that their children do not participate.
