6,500 USD = 24,000 QAR per month basic salary
By DeepBlueSea on Thu, 28/05/2009 - 9:14amHi,
I am a IT/Software architect with 7 years of total experience. I am on the verge of getting a job offer from a reputed company in Doha, QATAR. I have asked for 6,500 USD basic salary plus allowances or 9,000 USD including everything. However the employer will try to negotiate a bit to bring it down. I am 30 and married with no children. Will this offer be good enough to move to Qatar?

Right, driving lessons question!
By Tru_Poppy on Wed, 27/05/2009 - 4:01pmI've been lurking around the QL Forum for months and I finally signed up!
I have never driven before (I'm a city girl who's used to buses and trains) and I'm finding it so hard since we moved here. I've done a search on QL re: driving schools but seeing the different opinions is confusing me.
So here are my questions and I'd appreciate honest, been-there-done-that answers!
1) Living in West Bay, which is the nearest good driving school?
2) Can you recommend a motivated driving instructor who speaks good English? And can actually teach($64 million question, I know!)
Thanks in advance!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States offered rewards of up to $2.5 million on Tuesday for three members of the Philippines-based Islamist rebel group Abu Sayyaf, one of whom was involved in kidnapping U.S. tourists in 2001.
As part of its "Rewards for Justice" program, the State Department offered up to $1 million for Radullan Sahiron, a one-armed senior leader of the small but violent group aligned with regional militants.
"Sahiron played a role in the May 2001 Dos Palmas kidnapping of three U.S. citizens and 17 Filipinos from a tourist resort in Palawan, Philippines," said State Department spokesman Ian Kelly.

Leave the country with outstanding debts!!
By macliam on Tue, 26/05/2009 - 10:38amHi guys. One of my American female friends here in Qatar has decided to up and leave Qatar for good at the end of next month. Shes returning to the USA with a loan of $75,000 stil owing the bank here.
I have tried to advise her not to ignore her debts here. She is adament of the fact that as long as she never returns to Qatar then she will not be punished for leaving bad debt here.
Surely there must be an international organisation that stops people arriving in a country taking out huge debts and then leaving???
Foreign workers suffer under sponsor system
By nicaq25 on Tue, 26/05/2009 - 9:31amAfter working for a year without a day off, Eva, a 37-year-old Filipino housekeeper in Riyadh, wanted a holiday. Her employer thought otherwise, and demanded payment of SR8,000 ($2,139) to obtain her exit visa.
“I just wanted to go home to see my children,” says Eva, who asked that her surname be withheld while she continues working in the household. “Madame agreed to sign my exit visa only after I threatened to kill myself.”

Joke
By popcorngirl on Mon, 25/05/2009 - 9:34pmA man decides to teach his wife to play golf.
They go out, she tees up and she whacks the ball.
It smashes a window in a far away house.
The man and the woman look at each other and feel bad. They go to the house to apologise. A man opens the door, both of them very embarrased.
The man who owns the house is very fine about it.
He tells them he is a Genie and can grant them both one wish.
The man asks for a $1,000,000 per month.
The woman asks for 'a beautiful home in every big city it the world'.
The Genie tells them thier wishes have been granted. He asks for a wish for himself, after all he has been locked up 126 years.
He asks to have sex with the wife, after much discussion, the man and wife decide it is worth it.
I thought QR is only charging 20 USD per 1000 Qmiels transfers but when I got I receipt there was tax on top of that !!
