Drivers of 4WDs more prone to accidents, states study

By Bonnie James

A Qatar-based study has revealed that 40.3% of drivers involved in accidents were driving four-wheel-drive vehicles.
The topic of the study was the impact of 4WD vehicles on risky driver behaviour and road traffic accidents.
The study, by Dr Abdulbari Bener (department of medical statistics & epidemiology, Hamad Medical Corporation) covered 1,110 Qatari drivers, including 263 women.
“As many as 80.5% of the drivers had an accident at least once in the last three years,” he told Gulf Times.
The results indicated that the 20-29-years old driver group had the highest proportion of accident involvement.

Great concert!

The Business and Technology Education Council music national diploma students of Doha College presented a challenging and stylistically varied 70-minute concert to a packed and appreciative audience on Tuesday.
The artistes were Charne Jansen Van Vuuren (voice, piano, bass guitar), Natalie Steele (voice, bass guitar), Rory Munro (voice, electric guitar), Chad Walton (drums) and Narinee Halajian (keyboards).
They performed a demanding repertoire of solos, duets, ensemble and band numbers, requiring technical proficiency, concentration and absolute attention to musical detail.
The concert - the highlight and culmination of the students’ 2-year BTEC Music course – was, in fact their final practical examination.

I have just read in the Gulf Times, that the only 2 female Government Ministers (Education and Health), have now been replaced with male Ministers. Anyone any idea why?

Qatar plans to expand its water storage

The reservoirs of desalinated water in Qatar can only last for one and a half days in summer.
By Sarmad Qazi
Staff Reporter

Qatar’s drinking water storage capacity is only for a few days, leaving the residents exposed to an “extreme situation” in case of a catastrophe, Gulf Times has learnt.
The reservoirs of desalinated water that provide much of the potable and networked water in Qatar can only last for one and a half days in summer while the capacity crawls up to two days during winter at the current water-use rates.
“The situation is very serious and we are racing against time considering the population explosion,” water resources expert at the Department of Agriculture & Water Research (DAWR) Kamel Mostafa Amer told Gulf Times.
