Bahraini Ramzi Stripped of Olympic Title

Bahrain's Olympic 1500m champion Rashid Ramzi has been stripped of his gold medal after testing positive for doping at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Ramzi, who was his country's first Olympic champion, was one of five athletes who tested positive in April for new blood-booster Cera.

The 29-year-old faces a two-year ban but is expected to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Kenya's Asbel Kipruto Kiprop, who came second, is set to be upgraded to gold.

Nicolas Willis of New Zealand could go from bronze to silver with France's fourth-place finisher Mehdi Baala getting the bronze.

Take me to your leader!

I know where I’m NOT going on my next vacation. :)

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese tourism authorities are seeking investment to build a novel concept attraction — the world’s first “Women’s town,” where men get punished for disobedience!

The 2.3-square-km Longshuihu village in the Shuangqiao district of Chongqing municipality, also known as “Women’s town,” was based on the local traditional concept of “WOMEN RULE AND MEN OBEY” a tourism official told Reuters.

“Traditional women dominate and men have to be obedient in the areas of Sichuan province and Chongqing, and now we are using it as an idea to attract tourists and boost tourism,” the official, surname Li, said by telephone.

Shanghai to build version of Jackson's Neverl

BEIJING – China is planning to build its own version of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch on an island near Shanghai, state media said Wednesday.

The Shanghai Morning Post said the first phase of the project on Chongming Island will be completed within a year and will cover 7.2 million square feet (667,000 square meters).

Named after the home of Peter Pan, Neverland Ranch was a Jackson's whimsical retreat _ replete with carnival rides, a coterie of animals, two trains and a Disney-like station.

The total cost of China's version is expected to be around 100 million yuan ($14.6 million). The tribute to Jackson, who died June 25, will include a man-made lake, cinema and a zoo, the Shanghai Morning Post said, citing Qiu Xuefan, vice director of the Wenzhou Chamber of Commerce.

Unhand my patio heater, archbishop

"Unhand my patio heater, archbishop.

By Jeremy Clarkson

The Archbishop of Canterbury told the faithful on Christmas Day that unless human beings abandon our greed, we will be responsible for the death of the planet.

Hmm. I’m not sure that I can take a lecture on greed from a man who heads one of the western world’s richest institutions. As we huddle under a patio heater to stay warm while having a cigarette in the rain, his bishops are living in palatial splendour with banqueting halls, wondering where to invest the next billion.

China hushes up first gay pride week

Police warned two Shanghai venues against hosting events, even as a state-run daily hailed the festival as a "showcase" of progress.
By Peter Ford | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor from the June 11, 2009 edition

Beijing - Organizers of China's first gay pride week were struggling Thursday to find new venues for their events after police in Shanghai warned clubs and bars against joining the planned festival.

The crackdown came even as China's state-run English-language daily was hailing the celebration as "a good showcase of the country's social progress" and "an event of profound significance."
