QATAR - A SAFE COUNTRY!
By Dracula on Wed, 09/09/2009 - 8:26amDEFINITION: Total recorded intentional homicides, completed. Crime statistics are often better indicators of prevalence of law enforcement and willingness to report crime, than actual prevalence.
SOURCE: The Eighth United Nations Survey on Crime Trends and the Operations of Criminal Justice Systems (2002) (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Centre for International Crime Prevention)
(Mod Update : Qatar is ranked 81 on the list with only 1 homicide. That's one list we're glad that Qatar is on the bottom of! Full list here)
Happy Planet Index...
By britexpat on Sun, 05/07/2009 - 8:20amThis is a strange one.. At first I thought it was something to do with Hippies and the looney left, but reading the blurb, I know its a lot of wishy washy stuff.
Happy Happy will be pleased to know that Egypt came 12th, whilst the UK was in 74th place..
Perhaps you disagree... check out the website :http://www.happyplanetindex.org/
(UPI) -- Costa Rica tops the "Happy Planet Index," a ranking of ecological efficiency among the world's nations, survey officials say.
Costa Ricans reported the highest life satisfaction and have an average life expectancy second only to Canada, said a release from the New Economics Foundation, a British think tank that promotes ecology and sustainable economics.

The military action against President Zelaya, the country’s most popular President in recent history, raised fears of widespread violence as supporters took to the streets, throwing stones at army lorries and shouting: “Traitors! Traitors!”
