Manny Villar's Spending. Paano Mababawi Pag Presidente Na.

BY WENDELL VIGILIA
CONCEPCION, Tarlac – Liberal Party standard bearer Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III on Tuesday accused Sen. Manuel Villar, of using too much money in his campaign and forming an "unholy alliance" with the Arroyo administration.

"Alam niyo naman po, mapera yung kalaban ko. Magsasama-sama ang pwersa ng kadiliman," he told a crowd of about a thousand people at the Concepcion public market.

Ice cream vendor Jeff Garcia, 37, one of the faces in the crowd, said he would vote for Aquino not only because they hail from the same province but because of his strong conviction against graft and corruption.

"Maganda ang layunin niya sa kapwa," he said, adding that the public money that will be saved from corruption is enough to cause economic recovery.

FILEX: Political Dynasty

Since ELECTION TIME is fast approaching, CON ASS Debate is on going, I believe that another political issue is timely to discuss and talk about - POLITAL DYNASTY.

"Friedrich Naumann says... | Date replied: Jun 20,2007

On a very fundamental level, it is difficult to justify depriving someone from his inherent democratic right to seek elective office just because of his family. It also restricts the people?s democratic choice. If we believe that we have to prevent people from voting for dynasties, we are in effect saying that we do not trust the people to make the right choices ? but such a belief undermines democracy as a whole.

What's in a name?

What's in a name?
For the Pecpec clan of Ilocos Norte, plenty.
Posted by Howie Severino at 21:55

James Pecpec can't find a girlfriend, Erica Pecpec doesn't want to go to college. But older Pecpecs contented with life in the barrio bear the name proudly, and are confounded by this recent shift in meaning. After all, in old Ilocano pecpec means "full", as in a basket brimming with fruit. And a Pecpec ancestor was a revolutionary who fought with Gen. Artemio Ricarte of Batac. But most of us Pinoys know the modern meaning of "pekpek", and we can't blame James for seeking our help in trying to change his surname through Batac's municipal court. Otherwise, with the teasing he gets outside their barangay, his name chains him to the farm.
