NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. government will pay $1.26 million to five Muslim men detained for months without charges after the September 11 attacks who sued for unlawful imprisonment and abuse, their lawyers said on Tuesday.
The men claimed they suffered inhumane and degrading treatment in a Brooklyn detention center, including solitary confinement, severe beatings, incessant verbal abuse and a blackout on communications with their families and attorneys.

THE DIFFERENCE
The difference between the poor countries and the rich ones is not the age of the country:
This can be shown by countries like India & Egypt , that are more than 2000 years old, but are poor.
On the other hand, Canada , Australia & New Zealand , that 150 years ago were inexpressive, today are developed countries, and are rich.
The difference between poor & rich countries does not reside in the available natural resources.
Japan has a limited territory, 80% mountainous, inadequate for agriculture & cattle raising, but it is the second world economy. The country is like an

Cancer conference in Egypt bans Jews
By ummjake on Wed, 21/10/2009 - 12:05pmThe Susan G. Komen for the Cure (a US organization) is holding a conference on breast cancer awareness in Alexandria, Egypt this week. But the Israeli doctors and cancer researchers who had been already received invitations and gotten permission to attend suddenly had their inviations rescinded by the Egyptian government.
Seeing as Susan G. Komen herself was a Jew, and that this conference is being sponsored by a US organization (and in the US, you cannot bar/refuse someone from attending a conference based upon their religion), it seems kind of ironic to me that they're continuing with the conference in light of this move.

Why I hate Egyptians and Central Asians !
By Dracula on Sat, 17/10/2009 - 3:57pmGARLIC
gar'-lik (shum, used only in plural shumim; compare Arabic thum): One of the delights of Egypt for which the Israelites in the Wilderness longed; we know from other sources that, though originally a product of Central Asia, garlic was known to the ancient Egyptians.
It is the bulb of Allium sativum, Natural Order Liliaceae, and is cultivated all over the Orient.
It is eaten cooked in stews; its disagreeable penetrating odor is in evidence in the houses and on the breath of most Orientals.
A bulb of garlic, hung over a bed or over the door of a house, is a powerful charm against the evil eye and other malign influences.
