Post-Lisbon EU needs a European Army
By britexpat on Mon, 16/11/2009 - 8:49amNot mine, but an idea floated buy the Italians...
Lord help us.. How do we integrate the Challenger tanks with the Italian ones that only have reverse gears ?
Italy is to push for the creation of a European Army after the "new Europe" takes shape at this week's crucial EU summit following the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty.
Franco Frattini, the Italian Foreign Minister, said that the Lisbon Treaty had established "that if some countries want to enter into reinforced co-operation between themselves they can do so". This was already the case with the euro and the Schengen accords on frontier-free travel, and could now be applied to "common European defence".
Customs officers seize rabbit poo cigs
By britexpat on Mon, 16/11/2009 - 7:31amI know DaRuDe was experimenting with Camel Dung, but this is going too far ......
More than £1 million worth of counterfeit cigarettes filled with rabbit droppings instead of tobacco have been confiscated by customs officials in Spain.
The fake cigarettes - due to be sold on the black market as famous brands - were discovered after British holidaymakers in the Canary Islands smelled a rat whenever they lit up.
"They stunk. They smell just as you'd imagine burning poo to smell," said one customs official in Tenerife.
Police and customs staff arrested 12 smugglers in an undercover operation to intercept the cigarettes as they landed on a boat from China.
"They not only smell bad but the toxic chemicals they give off are pure poison," explained a customs official.

The US State Department in its annual review of international religious freedom, singled out the Philippines and Jordan for promoting interfaith initiatives and criticizing China and Israel for intolerance.
The president has emphasized that faith should bring us together, and this year’s report has a special focus on efforts to promote interfaith dialog and tolerance,” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in Washington.
Clinton came out strongly against laws around the world that make religious defamation a crime, saying freedom of speech and religion should be equally upheld.
