Philippine Ambassador Crescente Relacion and Sultan Sulaiman cut a cake to mark the launch of Simply Pinoy at Doha Marriot Hotel.

DOHA: The first Filipino magazine from Qatar called Simply Pinoy will soon hit the streets of Doha this month and will cover the events and updates of the ever growing population of the Filipino community in this country.

The 60-page glossy full-colour magazine was launched on Wednesday night at Doha Marriot Hotel with close to a hundred guests including Philippine Ambassador Crescente Relacion, leaders of the Filipino community, maiden issue advertisers and sponsors and local businessmen.

DOHA: For the fourth year in a row, the Sanna Streetball Challenge dubbed “Patibayan sa Ramadan” formally unfolds on Friday 21 August 2009 with “Oragon Nets” posting their 4-point victory, 82-78, over Mayor’s Squad during the opening game at Sanna Basketball Court.

DOHA: With Philippine Senator Manny Villar offering help to the 12 jobless Filipino workers stranded in Qatar, the hapless workers are in an upbeat mood.

The office of Villar through the efforts of Nhoyet Entena who is here in Qatar for a family visit has notified Noli Perez, the President of Federation of Filipino Workers Worldwide (FFWW), to give them further information on the workers so that a financial support would be extended.

Perez explained all financial support would definitely go through proper government channels in Qatar for formal and documentary purposes.

DOHA: The stage is set for the 1st Invitational Volleyball Tournament, dubbed ‘Hataw Na’. The event will start on September 3, the Volleyball Officiating Club (VOC) has announced.

The tournament which had been in hiatus for the last three years was revived after VOC meeting attended by team managers, team coaches and team coordinators on Monday at the ASD Gym.

DOHA: Mowasalat has hired 36 of the 137 Filipino bus drivers stranded in Dubai after they were reportedly duped by a recruitment agency and given bogus jobs, a report from the Philippine Department of Labour and Employment said yesterday.
Vivo Vidal, chief of the Philippine Overseas Labour Office (POLO) in Qatar, has informed Philippine Labour Secretary Marianito Roque that 36 drivers had been hired by Mowasalat, Qatar’s public transportation company, which employs some 800 Filipino workers.
