From Pakistan to France with Love

ISLAMABAD -- At a time when almost all the countries have issued strict travel advisory against traveling to violence-hacked Pakistan a French doctor is championing a personal mission to show the "real" face of this South Asian Muslim country not only to his countrymen, but the entire West.
"Pakistan is a misunderstood country in the western world, where people think there is nothing except suicide bombings and terrorists attacks," DR Vincent Loos told IslamOnline.net in an exclusive interview.

Loos, an intensive care specialist, has just finished his three-year work at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

He has decided to drive his way to his home country in a 25-year-old Volkswagen Beetle, commonly known as "Foxy Shahzadi", which is painted in an explosion of trippy colors.

Qatar takes stake in top carmaker Volkswagen

FRANKFURT — The Gulf state of Qatar has taken a 6.78-percent stake in Europe's biggest carmaker Volkswagen as part of a plan to take over around 17 percent of the company, Volkswagen said on Friday.

Qatar's investment will total some seven billion euros (10 billion dollars) and the country will become the third biggest shareholder in Volkswagen behind the Porsche and Piech families and the German state of Lower Saxony.

The agreement is part of a broader deal hammered out this month to merge Volkswagen with luxury sportscar maker Porsche, which incurred heavy debts in a recent failed bid to take over its far bigger rival Volkswagen.

Prosecutors raid Porsche in VW share probe

German prosecutors raided Porsche's headquarters on Thursday after financial market regulator Bafin filed charges with the Stuttgart prosecutor's office in connection with suspected market manipulation relating to Volkswagen shares.

Bafin declined to comment on whether specific individuals were being investigated or comment on the exact period under investigation.

VW's majority shareholder Porsche, which tried in vain to take over Europe's biggest carmaker, said prosecutors had searched its offices and seized documents.

Qatar’s increasing international profile

Hello, I'm new to this site. However, I'd like to try and contribute actively to this forum.

I would like to post a story about Qatar which I came across the other day. It appeared in Kuwait Times last Wednesday. I'm providing the link to another person's blog who had attributed the story to Kuwait Times. It made interesting reading. It also shows Qatar's ambition.

(Unfortunately, I could not locate the story on Kuwait Times...)
