From Pakistan to France with Love
By ia doha on Tue, 17/11/2009 - 9:29pmISLAMABAD -- At a time when almost all the countries have issued strict travel advisory against traveling to violence-hacked Pakistan a French doctor is championing a personal mission to show the "real" face of this South Asian Muslim country not only to his countrymen, but the entire West.
"Pakistan is a misunderstood country in the western world, where people think there is nothing except suicide bombings and terrorists attacks," DR Vincent Loos told IslamOnline.net in an exclusive interview.
Loos, an intensive care specialist, has just finished his three-year work at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.
He has decided to drive his way to his home country in a 25-year-old Volkswagen Beetle, commonly known as "Foxy Shahzadi", which is painted in an explosion of trippy colors.
Pakistan only regionalcountry to diagnose flu
By Friendd88 on Mon, 25/05/2009 - 8:09amISLAMABAD: National Institute of Health, Islamabad, has achieved the capability of laboratory diagnosis of swine flu virus, Influenza A (H1N1) subtype, an official said yesterday. With the achievement, Pakistan has emerged as the only country in the whole East Mediterranean region of WHO having this capability.
“We have received primers — special reagents, which are used to diagnose H1N1 in a blood sample — from Centre for Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases, Atlanta, Georgia,” said Executive Director at the NIH Dr Birjees Mazhar Qazi.
He added the equipment used for conducting the test was already available at the institute.
