DOHA: The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is introducing a new appointment system in the Women’s Hospital Out-Patient Department which is expected to reduce the wait time to see a doctor.

This new system will go into effect on November 1. All patients with upcoming appointments will receive a telephone call to explain how the new system works.

Wait times for patients are being reduced through three significant improvements to the existing system. First, patients will be able to see the doctor by making an appointment for a time dedicated exclusively for them.

H1N1 flu jabs soon in Qatar

Medical experts, who took part in a discussion on H1N1 flu, have advised against postponing the reopening of schools after the summer vacation in Qatar, but urged the health authorities and parents to remain “vigilant” to confront the disease on a case-by-case basis.
Most of the schools in Qatar are scheduled to begin their new academic year on September 26.
The discussion was organised and hosted by the Friends of Environment Centre at its Green Tent, where contemporary issues of local interest are taken up during the month of Ramadan.
While some of the speakers accused the media of “exaggerating” the threat from H1N1 virus, commonly called swine flu, others believed the matter should be taken seriously to prevent catastrophic consequences for the humanity.

Can my pregnent wife get health insurance on arrival in Qatar?

Hi guys,

I am moving to Qatar in 1 month. By the time I move, my wife will be 3 months pregnant. On arrival will we get a health insurance for her that covers her pregnancy?

Can my wife also get a government "health card" as soon as her residence permit is done?

Could you also inform me of the estimated cost of a delivering a child at a local hospital, for example Hamad Medical Corporation?

Hamad Medical Corporation

Hi. I would like to get some feedback from those working in HMC or has some background regarding the organization. Is it a good company to work in? Is it professionally managed? Does HMC treat/pay their employees well? Do they promote career advancement?

I signed their offer letter almost 2 months ago, but up to now I have yet to get my entry visa. It is not reassuring if this is how the organization works.

Any bit of info will be highly appreciated.

Cheers.

Wake Up! Women's Hospital

This is the first time my wife will deliver our 2nd baby in Qatar. My wife had an appointment at 11:00am today. we went early around 10:30am...

What happens next makes me crazy....

We waited around 4 hours for regular check-up. You have to get number for the admittance to entertain you. Then another number for the consultation for the doctor.

What happen to the ISO Certified Hamad Hospital here?

This is really crazy...

Quoted from their website

"The management and staff of Hamad Medical Corporation has coped with huge increases in demand during the past 23 years and provided quality care with its resources."

Do Qataris and expatriates feel seatbelts are helpful?

In 2000, deaths due to Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) were the third leading cause of death in Qatar after the diseases of the circulatory system and cancer.

swine flu in Qatar

DOHA: The Minister of Health, H E Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani, yesterday announced two more cases of swine flu in Qatar, taking the number of confirmed cases in the country to five.

The Minister had on Tuesday announced the first three cases of swine flu in Qatar after two children and a 17-year-old Iraqi student, all of whom arrived in Doha recently from swine flu-hit countries, were diagnosed with the disease.

A 17-year-old Jordanian student, who travelled with the Iraqi student during his trip to Doha from Washington, tested positive for the H1N1 virus yesterday. A 31-year-old Filipino, who arrived in Doha from Washington last Friday on a Qatar Airways flight, has also been diagnosed with the disease.

A cool campaign for workers

By Peter Townson

Members of an online community volunteer group began a campaign yesterday to distribute cold drinks and other items to protect labourers working outdoors from the summer heat.
After being suggested by a member of the Qatar Living Volunteer Group, ‘Pitstop,’ the campaign began with a collection session on Thursday afternoon, where group members received an overwhelming response from charitable members of the Doha community.
And yesterday, members distributed some of the items throughout Doha, claiming to have given items to around 1,000 labourers during their drive.
