Down Syndrome

Can anyone help me find a guidance program for 21 yr old girl with very mild form of down syndrome?

I want her to be assessed for her strengths and weaknesses and I want to know in which areas she can excell. If someone knows the place where I can take her, pl. provide me the name and phone no. or contact person. I'll really appreciate it.

childrens physiotherapy

Hi,
I am a British physiotherapist living in Doha that specialises in care of children with special needs such as down syndrome, cerebral palsy and motor delay. Does anyone know of any establishments that specialise in the treatment and management of children with physical difficulties? The Shafallah Centre is not an option for me as I'm not Qatari and the other places like the Learning Centre and Sunbeam dont seem to provide physiotherapy. I would appreciate your help, Im sure there must be children out there in need of pysiotherapy?
Kind regards

TRISOMY 21 of Qataries???

Hey guys, I've seen a lot here in Qatar with Down Syndrome or Trisomy 21.

Is this related to Qatari Culture/Tradition that Qataries should marry their close relatives? sometimes first degree?

I heard that they want to keep their wealth by marrying their relatives.

Quite Sad...

Special Ed Schools

It looks like we might be headed to Doha with my 11 year-old son with Down Syndrome, and we've been scouring the Internet for schools.

We are looking for recommendations from anyone who has first-hand knowledge of special ed for an 11 year-old, or can refer us to someone or an organization with any information.

Also, does anyone know of a Down Syndrome Support Group?

Many thanks! Sam

Mohammed and his Autistic sister

Mohammed is a another Qatari who's blog I came across a while ago. In his latest post, he shares the moving story of his autistic little sister...this is what he had to say..

" I actually deliberated for a very long time with myself about whether or not I should write about this topic. But after a public reading I participated in last week, I was given some advice by someone I met there who said, "if you get worried about how people would react to your written works, you will never be a good writer." So, in the spirit of what he told me, I have decided to write this post.

My little sister was born in 1996. She is the youngest one in the family and was diagnosed with Down Syndrome disorder when she was born. It's a chromosomal disorder that affects the child's cognitive abilities and facial appearance (in varying degrees). It was her who inspired me to write a "Work of Fiction" which eventually got published.
