Millions want to switch countries
By ummjake on Wed, 04/11/2009 - 9:10pm"WASHINGTON (AFP) – Some 700 million people worldwide, or more than all the adults of North and South America combined, think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence and want to permanently move to another country, a poll showed Tuesday.
Residents of sub-Saharan African countries were the most likely to want to move abroad permanently, the polls conducted in 135 countries between 2007 and this year by Gallup showed.
On average, 38 percent of the adult population in sub-Saharan Africa, or around 165 million people, said they would up stakes and head for another country if they had the chance.
The most popular destination was the United States, where nearly a quarter of the 700 million -- around 165 million people -- said they would like to settle.

.
The US State Department in its annual review of international religious freedom, singled out the Philippines and Jordan for promoting interfaith initiatives and criticizing China and Israel for intolerance.
The president has emphasized that faith should bring us together, and this year’s report has a special focus on efforts to promote interfaith dialog and tolerance,” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in Washington.
Clinton came out strongly against laws around the world that make religious defamation a crime, saying freedom of speech and religion should be equally upheld.

Training One's Tongue Not to Harm Other People
By al_amriki on Wed, 28/10/2009 - 11:36amGreetings all,
A sage in Islamic Spain, in an effort to obey his Creator regarding protecting the rights of other people, used a similar practice to the one below to train his tongue to stay out of trouble:
1. Carry a notepad and pen/PDA/Smartphone and write down the first few words spoken when you fall into one of the mistakes below:
- 1. ghiba (slander) - Saying something about someone he would not like to be said about him. (Unless advising someone regarding doing business with the person, or when asked regarding seeking marriage to that person)
- 2. namima (tale-telling) - 'spreading everyone's news'. Usually this is unintentional, but causes grief for the person, or causes enmity between people.

medyo mahaba lang but please do read…ito na nga ba ang ayaw natin mangyari kaya we really took pains to be able to distribute our (AIC) donations directly to the victims kahit karampot lang yong satin. I don’t know what we can do right now, but spreading the word might help. - Alpha

Britain is the Centre of the Universe
By exiledsaint on Tue, 20/10/2009 - 5:02pmAt the centre of time
Without it international travel would be in turmoil and calling friends in faraway places at the right time impossible. Exactly 125 years after the Greenwich Meridian line was drawn, how and why did Britain become the centre of time?
At longitude 0° 0' 00", the arbitrary stroke on our maps that passes from pole to pole and bisects the UK, France, Spain, Algeria, Mali, Burkina Faso and Ghana divides the Earth into east and west, just as the Equator splits it into north and south.
This imaginary line now known as the Greenwich Prime Meridian not only allows us to navigate the globe but also keeps the world ticking to the same symbolic 24-hour clock.
But it has not always been so.
Boyzone fame Stephen Gately choked to death!
By svelte_saggi on Mon, 12/10/2009 - 10:06am
Oct.12,2009
Tragic Boyzone star Stephen Gately choked to death on his vomit, sources close to the police investigation said last night.
Stephen, 33, was found dead in his pyjamas by partner Andy Cowles at their £1million Majorcan holiday home. A post mortem will be held tomorrow and a Spanish judge will begin an investigation but insiders unofficially confirmed the cause of the tragedy.
Stephen was discovered kneeling against a sofa with his face buried in a pillow. A friend of the Gately family said: "They have been told the most likely scenario is Stephen had a bit too much to drink, vomited in his sleep and choked. It was a terrible accident."
