Qatar, a best place to invest in the world
By OfMyHeartShape on Sat, 19/09/2009 - 1:46amQatar had the highest economic growth in the world in 2009.
The Gulf state's economy will expand with a real gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 9.6 percent, said QNB Capital.
Qarar is one of the richest countries in the world . Qatar discovered huge reserves of oil and gas in the 1940s,that completely transformed its economy.
Qatar offers most of its services to its citizens for free and has no income tax. The amount of money they get from selling oil is more than enough for their small yet thriving economy.

Pakistan to import gas from Qatar
By rbakali on Fri, 26/06/2009 - 12:41pmPakistan has agreed to import natural gas from Qatar following delays on a proposal to build a pipeline to transport the fuel from Iran, officials say.
Pakistani and Qatari officials met yesterday in Doha and reached a preliminary agreement to ship 1.5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year to Pakistan, a government energy adviser told Bloomberg. “There is a shortage,” said Asim Hussain, a petroleum and natural resources adviser to the Pakistani government. “We are a country that is not self-sufficient in gas.”
Pakistan had originally sought 3.2 million tonnes, but Qatar could not provide that amount, Mr Hussain said. Pakistan regularly suffers power cuts because it has inadequate supplies of gas to fuel power stations.
Dubai - 3 Britons accused of $500m fraud !
By britexpat on Sun, 21/06/2009 - 7:57amI was expecting to see Mr. Paul’s name in this list, but thankfully not so !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ryan Cornelius divided his time between his property and energy businesses in Bahrain and his beach hotel in Kenya. It was there he kept his yacht and pursued his passion for big game fishing.
Charles Ridley dealt out sums in the billions as local representative of a boutique bank owned by a Turkish multi-millionaire. He too kept a million-dollar yacht berthed near his home in Bahrain.
Mr Fitzwilliam was more low-key but his venture was perhaps the most breathtaking of all: a villa and hotel development in the Dubai desert called The Plantation.

Opec chief sees big drop in oil demand
By jackmohan2007 on Tue, 10/03/2009 - 12:09pmOpec chief sees big drop in oil demand

Al-Attiyah and el-Badri opening the exhibition
Opec Secretary General Abdalla Salem el-Badri has said the group expected crude demand to drop by as much as 1mn barrels a day in 2009 as compliance to implement agreed cuts hit about 80% to 85%.
“Demand is expected to sink by 1mn barrels a day. It will add downward pressure on prices,” he said.
Asked whether he expected more than the 35 projects in member countries to be cancelled, he said, “at this price, yes.”
“We have seen a lot of stimulus packages, but we haven’t seen any positive effect of that policy on crude prices”, el-Badri said.

Qatar is like Chicago in 1900 - but with less crime and better weather
Robert Crampton
A few fascinating facts about the tiny Gulf emirate of Qatar. It is awash with oil and is home to about 15 per cent of the planet's proved reserves of natural gas. Consequently, it is one of the two or three richest per capita countries on Earth, its economic growth rate of more than 13 per cent is set to be the highest in the world this year, ditto its rate of immigration, which will raise the population from around 1.2 million to possibly 2.2 million in three years. Fewer than 20 per cent of them will be native Qataris. A century ago the population was 27,000.
Something old, something new

...From pearl diving to natural gas, Qatar has built itself on the back of its natural resources. With a construction boom seemingly unaffected by the regional slowdown, Construction Week tours the capital Doha, to find out just what is driving the nation.
It has been singled out by economists as the best place to do business in 2009. Quite an accolade for a nation of less than 2 million people. This is Qatar. A hydrocarbon economy fueled by huge reserves of natural gas, and a healthy slice of the GCC's golden ticket - oil reserves.
