West hails Karzai as 'legitimate' president..

This shows that political expediency takes precedence over ethics and morality. We should all be ashamed of our leaders :O(

British and American officials rushed to congratulate Mr Karzai as the country's "legitimate leader" as the international community tried to draw a line under months of paralysing political limbo following the Aug 20 vote which was mired in fraud.

But London and Washington also made clear that they expect him to make immediate moves towards bolstering the ranks of the armed forces, tackling corruption and giving the defeated opposition a role within his new government.

Sudan leader in Qatar for summit

Sudan leader in Qatar for summit

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has arrived in Qatar for an Arab summit due to discuss an indictment against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

He has already visited Egypt, Eritrea and Libya over the past week to drum up support from his neighbours.

Qatar has not signed the ICC charter, which obliges member states to arrest indictees on their territory, but clerics have urged Mr Bashir not to go.

Libya's leader earlier said the ICC was a "new form of world terrorism".

Muammar Gaddafi, who is also president of the African Union, spoke out against the ICC warrant on a visit to the organisation's headquarters in Ethiopia on Sunday.

Geert Wilders on trial

Dutch court orders prosecution of anti-Islam politician
1 hour ago

THE HAGUE (AFP) — A Dutch court ordered prosecutors Wednesday to put far-right lawmaker Geert Wilders on trial for inciting hatred and discrimination against Muslims by comparing their religion to Nazism.

"By attacking the symbols of the Muslim religion, he also insulted Muslim believers," the Amsterdam appeals court said in a written judgment.

"In a democratic system, hate speech is considered to be so serious that it is in the general interest to ... draw a clear line," it added.

The court was handing down judgment after receiving numerous complaints from citizens over the prosecution service's refusal to press charges against Wilders for several public anti-Islamic statements.
