Dubai: Five flights were diverted from Dubai International Airport and a runway was temporarily closed on Tuesday after an Emirates flight had to return back to the airport after takeoff, officials said.

Emirates said flight EK087 bound for Zurich, Switzerland turned back shortly after takeoff "due to a warning indication from the forward cargo hold". The Boeing 777-300ER landed normally and was inspected by emergency services, the airline said.

Passengers were rebooked on a later flight. Dubai Airports said customer safety was never compromised, and flights were rerouted to nearby Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

Dubai v Doha

My husband went to the bank today to request a loan to purchase a car. When we arrived just a little over 2 weeks ago they said it wouldn't be a problem.

Today they have told him that their policy has changed and he has to have 12 months pay slips in order to secure a loan.

Has the market crash in Dubai caused problems for ex-pats here in Doha? Has the discovery of over 2000 purchase hire cars in Dubai International Airport instilled fear into the bank's loaning policy in Doha?

Dubai economic crisis - what is happening?

What is really happening in Dubai?
While the Dubai Authorities and the local media tend to paint a rosy picture of an evident critical and problematic financial situation in Dubai, some of the International Media seem to be more open about it.
How much of this is affecting Qatar?
How will the Dubai crisis, impact on Qatar?

Here are some articles exposing what Dubai does not wish to disclose:

"Damac Properties in Dubai Fail to Pay Employees Full Settlement on Dismissal
If you were beginning to believe the press releases stating that Dubai is immune from the financial crisis, the latest report from Gulf news should disabuse you of that notion. Employees fired by Damac last month due to the financial crisis are not being paid their full settlement."

Indians flee Dubai as dreams crash

It’s the great escape by Indians who’ve hit the dead-end in Dubai .

Local police have found at least 3,000 automobiles — sedans, SUVs, regulars — abandoned outside Dubai International Airport in the last four months. Police say most of the vehicles had keys in the ignition, a clear sign they were left behind by owners in a hurry to take flight.

The global economic crisis has brought Dubai ’s economic progress, mirrored by its soaring towers and luxurious resorts, to a stuttering halt. Several people have been laid off in the past months after the realty boom started unraveling.
