H1N1 Vaccination.... why only a single dose?
By Amoud on Thu, 19/11/2009 - 10:13amI have taken my toddler and 13 year old for the H1N1 vaccine a few weeks back as we are travelling to a H1N1 hotspot.
I was very very surprised by 2 things.....
1. No live vaccine was given to him or my 13 year old (both my children are in the recommended age bracket for live vaccine).
2. My toddler is not supposed to go back for a second dose as I was informed the vaccine center said one dose is enough (which is contracdictory to WHO recomendations)
Anyone had the same experience or able to shed some light on the reasons why? Just as a side note, there is no vaccine shortage in Qatar so this is not ther reason for the second vaccination.
Today's newspaper gives details of H1N1 vaccination plan of government. Where to get the vaccination. Please reply only if you have reliable informatin. General answers like go to Hamad etc is not acceptable.

H1N1 CLAIMS ONE MORELIFE IN QATAR
By nomecool on Fri, 13/11/2009 - 6:20pmH1N1 claims one more life in Qatar
Influenza A(H1N1) virus has claimed another life raising the number of deaths to seven in Qatar, the Supreme Council of Health has announced.
The latest victim, a 31-year-old Indian woman, died yesterday after she was diagnosed with H1N1 virus infection. She was admitted to Hamad Hospital on November 6 suffering from rheumatic fever, cardiac diseases, breathing difficulty and high temperature.
On Tuesday, a Pakistani youth, 17, died due to the virus after suffering from complications of temperature and pneumonia and was later diagnosed with a kidney disease known as Nephritic Syndrome.
The council will hold a press conference on Sunday. The meeting will be addressed by the Public Health Department director Dr Mohamed al-Thani.
No offense but what is it with hand shaking business with Indians. I mean what is it so special if you seeing each other every day and even sometimes if they go out of office for a while and when they come back they still want to shake hands. Aren’t they aware of the swine flu pandemic all over the word and don’t they worry to get the virus from hand shaking with almost everybody they say hello to?

resentment over doctor remarks
By king_qatar on Thu, 15/10/2009 - 9:24amtoday in arabic paper alsharq,dr.Abdulatif Alkhal head of internal medicine in Hamad hospital and member of vaccination committee sends very strong message to fellow doctor Hbaib Albasty, plastic surgeon, who lately spread an sms warning against H1N1 vaccine..
dr.Alkahl described the sms as "shameful" and coming from a doctor not specialized in public health and with no medical or scientific references.
dr. Albasty said in his defense, that he sent that sms to some family members and didnt expect it to be that widespread..
