Scholars call for self-restraint( Gulf Times)

Ramadan means not only abstention from food and drink from dawn to sunset but also self-restraint in all aspects of life, Muslim scholars pointed out in their Friday sermons yesterday.
Sheikh Ahmed al-Buainain said that fasting was mainly a way to achieve piety and to give spiritual boost for Muslims.
“Fasting is not only about (abstention from) food, water, sex and smoking. It is more than that. It is to give up gossip, falsity and restrain yourself from all types of worldly desires,” Sheikh al-Buainain told a congregation at Sohaib al-Roumi mosque at Al Wakrah.
The scholar urged Muslims to take the month as a “new beginning” for their life and change it for the better, saying that Ramadan was an opportunity for smokers to give up.
