Modern music is sinful:Qatari scholar ( Gulf times)

Qatari Muslim scholar has criticised young Muslims who are obsessed with listening to music and singing, saying modern-day singing is “sinful and prohibited” in Islam.
In his sermon yesterday, Sheikh Mohamed Hasan al-Mreikhi said that singing was one of the worst vice which is on the rise among young Muslims and which threatens to weaken their faith.
“Listening to music and singing is a sin and cause for the sickening of the heart. There is a wide ignorance of the Islam ruling on singing among Muslims. Although it has been prohibited, there are persons who are still refusing this ruling and trying to find other justifications permitting singing,” Sheikh al-Mreikhi told a congregation at the Omar bin al-Khattab mosque at Khalifa town.

Scholars call for self-restraint( Gulf Times)

Ramadan means not only abstention from food and drink from dawn to sunset but also self-restraint in all aspects of life, Muslim scholars pointed out in their Friday sermons yesterday.
Sheikh Ahmed al-Buainain said that fasting was mainly a way to achieve piety and to give spiritual boost for Muslims.
“Fasting is not only about (abstention from) food, water, sex and smoking. It is more than that. It is to give up gossip, falsity and restrain yourself from all types of worldly desires,” Sheikh al-Buainain told a congregation at Sohaib al-Roumi mosque at Al Wakrah.
The scholar urged Muslims to take the month as a “new beginning” for their life and change it for the better, saying that Ramadan was an opportunity for smokers to give up.
